Pure awesomeness. And further, how come a country with a population less than Texas can support the production of so many cool RWD V8s? And we get... crappola.
It just amazes me that Ford and GM don't think these vehicles are right for the US. I'm sure it's in the numbers but, for the life of me, I can't see why they could not sell enough of these to turn a profit. Maybe it's just CAFE.
@GV_Goat: CAFE has nothing to do with it. New car buying Americans who buy American have insisted for years that manual transmissions don't need to exist, and the Malibu was a good idea. Blame them.
Besides, you've got the Mustang (build your own special edition?), Camacho, and Challenger. Not to mention, the awesomeness of the CTS-V.
But not the wagon, those bastards. I still don't understand why the sedan and ute are on the awesome new FG platform, but the wagon is still on the old BF platform.
Not that it matters, we still can't have it. I blame you Americans.
@Deartháir II: The Return: Look at the production numbers. They couldn't sell 75 SVT Rancheros here? They could sell 75 of those to Jalopnik readers alone.
I continue to be envious of the hoontastic vehicle offerings down under... Except for their brakes, which apparently nobody told them were dry-clean only.
@skaycog - Just Say Yes!: Fact: Ford had been working on something called "Cab Forward design" with mules that became the '96 Taurus, but Chrysler beat them to the marketing punch with the '93 Intrepid.

@skaycog - Just Say Yes!: If it makes you feel any better, I have been quietly taking notes and pondering your facts all day. I figured you were busy at the library's card catalog, tracking down books and reference materials. I didn't want to interrupt you with a comment unless I could add to the conversation. And my condolences for what .357 just did to you.
@wojo-the newly visible manardi: awesome comment, great job! is feeling the love!: Because the U.S. clearly doesn't want any high-powered V8s or RWD. We want little itty bitty cars with 1.0l four-bangers and open-differential front-drivers.
