@Steve Costello: Could I have NO Bugatti Veyrons, a few John Deere Ds (unstyled) and old Farmalls for fun, a few Ford 3930s for work, and about 1,000 acres instead?
How's that for a different perspective?
Even better, 100 acres for me and the wife, 100 acres for each kid, another 100 acres for the in-laws kids, etc until we hit the $3M mark.
Way more useful than a Veyron. And there's still money left over for play tractors and a few project cars. #fordmustang
@Elhigh: This is the attitude that we have all strayed from! We need to get away from Bugatti, Mercedes, BMW, anything that charges a premium for a product that you can get for significantly less elsewhere.
No more front wheel drive.
No more automatic transmission.
No more pansy 4 cylanders.
@Elhigh: I can definitely get on board with this. I was comparing apples to oranges. You are comparing apples to coffee cups. :) Can $5.5 million be put to better use than a trio of supercars or a single very not-super car? Definitely. For that much scratch, you could provide 1,000 needy, deserving families with a halfway decent ride.
On the other hand, for five and a half cool ones, you could have a helluva weekend in Vegas... #fordmustang
@Heavern2: I'm kinda smitten with 4-bangers. You read some of my other statements, you'll see a hold an irrational fondness for the Iron Duke, the 22R (it will end you and all you love), the Scout 196 (3.2 liters in a four - gigantic). Big fours rock my world.
Over on the tractor side of the aisle, I find the occasional big four. Going far back you find over 300ci in a four cylinder. A couple of old poppin' Johnny Deeres still rockin' the old two-cylinder had 360ci in just two jugs. Man, what an exhaust note that is. And when you load it up and the governor opens the carb, the engine digs deep as it bears down: chuggita, chuggita, chuggita,..chugga! chugga! chugga! ...chu-WHOMP. chu-WHOMP. chu-WHOMP.
I love tractors. I love cars. I love the way they move me, not just in the driver's seat but the way they move me as part of the environment. Each cylinder hits, and you can feel it in your chest, a thump that has escaped the iron heart of the beast. If that isn't awesome, in the old sense of the word, I don't know what is. #fordmustang
Vegas, gag. Take the five point five mill, fly into Vegas. Wait for the next plane leaving, going anywhere.
Fly back out. Now you can say you came away from Vegas with over five million dollars. There is nothing in Vegas I want, want to see, or want to participate in.
@Elhigh: Both of our family tractors rock four bangers. There is nothing wrong with four cylinders, not when they can pop wheelies in first AND second. #fordmustang
It isn't original some fool added seat belts. The original options specified seat belt delete!
This guy has been trying to sell this thing for outrageous money for several years. He needs to move the decimal place one to the left at least. #fordmustang
@P161911 probably shoudn't have:
Seat belts added, wrong radio (AM/FM was not available) and a few other glaring details... (like, they couldn't bolt the Rally-Pac on straight?) For this kind of pipe-smoking price, this should be a 100-point showpiece. #fordmustang
This has so much pipe, it's the size of the Cotton Bowl.
Next thing you know, we'll see the first known Pinto, the first known diesel Chevette, and the only still-running diesel conversion Eldorado pulling in six-figure prices.
At least GM didn't downsize the 350 to 4.1L, then add V8-6-4 technology, then convert it to diesel. The "you're walkin' " trifecta. #fordmustang
@drauzy: Yep, the pilot production models that were built in a separate shop. This is only about 1/2 step above somebody claiming super rarity because they have one of only 3 (insert generic muscle car here) built with yellow exterior, tan interior, vinyl top, manual transmission, power windows, manual locks, and a towing package. #fordmustang
@drauzy: Ford already owns the very first Mustang (at least with a serial number) - it was a promotional car that was accidentally sold off, but they bought it back and have kept it in the Henry Ford Museum since. #fordmustang
That's somewhere around $5,470,000 worth of provenance?
At 1/10 the price, it would still be too pricy, but at least I could see the justification. I wouldn't even question the buyer's sanity if it sold for over a million, but at 5.5 million dollars, I think (hope) that the seller is being grossly optimistic. #fordmustang
Not to rain on anyone's 308 love, but it's not a GTS, it's not a Euro dry-sump motor, and it's not a fiberglass lightweight. If you're eager to tune carbs, great, but I think he could have picked a more collectible version to obsess over. #ferrari308
