It's for sale on eBay. Buy it now for an astonishing $5.5 million.

$5.5 million is a helluva a lot of ducats to spend on a 45-year-old car with no heater and an original sale price of $3,318.60, but this sucker's apparently been established as the very first Mustang to roll down Ford's assembly line. That means it's got a born-on-date of March 9, 1964, making it the 212th Mustang built — following 211 prototype and promotional cars built in the Allen Park prototype facility. Although it now lives as a museum piece, this first of an unbroken progeny of nine million cars wearing the same name, still managed to get over 55,000 miles on the odometer in its lifetime.

The eBay listing is worth a look for no other reason than to check out the cool history of the early cars. [Ebay

<![CDATA[Hyper-Maintained Ferrari 308 Boggles Minds With Perfection]]> This 1979 Ferrari 308 GTB is for sale on eBay. It's probably in better condition now than when Maranello birthed it. The obsessively maintained car has not only been meticulously maintained, it's been updated to provide better performance and reliability.

There isn't much we could add to the owners statement regarding the car below, but if you want nothing more than the best chariot from which to display the flowing chest hair peeking from behind your open Hawaiian shirt, there's probably no finer example of this car available. At least not at the reserve price.

This is - to quote one of the top marque specialists alive today - "The most highly restored Ferrari 308 ever offered for sale". It is quite honestly:

Unrepeatable, without peer, without equal, a true ‘once in a lifetime' opportunity.

You read that and say "Yeah, right".

I'm a sceptic too, a technical engineer by trade and professional pursuit. By the time you finish scanning the photos and reading this, I believe your scepticism will be lifted. Because what you see here is 5 years of my life, blood sweat and tears poured into one of the most recognizable works of rolling art Ferrari ever produced.

I bought this US spec 79 308GTB (29007) in 2001 and drove it until Nov 2003 then decided to restore it to better than new.

Some use the phrases "frame off" or "nut and bolt restoration" casually, yet this car was entirely disassembled, lovingly catalogued, with every component rebuilt, replaced, re-plated or renewed (possibly all 4!) I have over 1,000 photos and the 6 figure receipts to prove it.

After the international attention received on its greatly-anticipated completion, plus a full 6 page spread in Forza Magazine issue number 96 (the very picky, glossy Ferrari-only publication) I have decided to turn my attention to another Ferrari of mine, and let someone else enjoy the fruits of my labour.

Look at the photos, read the abbreviated descriptions below. If you are a person who wants THE best yet only wants to turn the key to enjoy a near-literally ‘brand new Ferrari 308' then get ready to bid on an irreplaceable masterpiece.

ü Body/Chassis/Undercarriage – All panels soda-blasted to perfection. Zero collision damage found. None. Impossibly minor decay in hidden trunk area (where NO ONE would ever look) was removed, re-engineered, replaced, chemically protected. Chassis components cleaned, correctly refinished. Body has nearly 1,500 areas of obsessive correction (beyond factory, I promise) and preparation. All etch primered for state of the art protection. Doors alone took 40 hours to perfect. Their vault-like ‘thunk' and laser-straight alignment stand as testimony to the effort. All body and chassis components reassembled with microscopic precision.

The car was then carefully and correctly resprayed Giallo Fly and polished to a mirror finish. The yellow suits the flowing lines of Pininfarina's best, giving lightness, reflection depth, and subtle hue changes. This car in this color, at sunset, is nearly beautiful enough to bring a tear to the most jaded enthusiast.

Just since I can't leave well enough alone – ever – I authentically replicated the euro grill, had it anodized, and hand-fitted it better and cleaner than the original. Because this is originally a US spec car it came with the large bumpers and add-on side marker lamps. I upgraded the bumpers and lamps to the euro look for weight reduction and the clean design Pinninfarina originally penned for the 308.

ü Engine The engine in this car is healthier than new. Has new custom high compression pistons, ported heads, modern 3 ring setup rather than antique 4 ring design, modern positive guide seals to control oil consumption, bearings, OEM gaskets, rebuilt carbs, rebuilt single Euro distributor, stainless mandrel bent exhaust, powder coated wrinkle finish airbox and cloth covered hoses. Engine note is remarkable, and the 3.0 V8 is so smooth you can place a champagne glass on it at idle. All new timing belts of course, tensioners, every engine seal possible is new. Every part was scrubbed clean and if originally painted, then painted better. If not, then it was only cleaned, then protectively coated (not painted to ‘dress it up' for photos like many do.) Look at the pictures again. This car is pristine, even where it doesn't matter.

ü Transaxle, The flywheel was machined, the clutch was rebuilt. The gearbox was fitted with new syncros, bearings, gaskets, and seals. Doesn't leak a drop and get this - - it shifts like a brand new car stone cold even into 2nd gear. No clunk, no grind, no skipping 2nd for the first 10 miles or ½ hour, no nothing. The shifter was disassembled, cleaned and re-greased. Just smooth-shifting joy up to any sub red-line level you pick, the way Enzo intended

ü Braking, Suspension, Wheels The brakes are OEM, new rotors, new pads, new hoses, re-plated original brake lines, rebuilt and over-restored callipers. The suspension retains the original major components such as springs, arms, spindles etc but with OEM correct bushings, spring rate paint marks, Koni decals, new spring isolators, OEM stabilizer bar bushings, on and on, every bushing and bearing is new and OEM! The rims are OEM Ferrari QV 16" rims too, not reproductions that don't look quite right, the spare rim is an NOS front rim that has never been installed on the car, all with raised lettering and wrapped with P-Zero's in OEM sizes.

ü Electrical, sub systems All sub-assemblies such as window motors, fan motors, wiper motor, alternator, steering rack, rear hubs and axles were rebuilt, re-greased, adjusted, replaced. Whatever niggling Italian electrical "characteristics" you expect (especially on a 30 year old version!) you can drop from you "worry list". If it worked on this car when new on the showroom floor, it works as well or better on this car now. The fuse blocks are good enough for the space shuttle. My friend, an electrical engineer manufactured a direct replacement fuse block set that accepts modern blade style fuses that also accommodate the OEM covers so they look OEM yet work better than any OEM bullet style fuse could ever hope to. Lights are brighter, windows are faster and no headaches.

ü Interior – Oh my, the interior. New, glorious fresh leather seat skins, plus leather door panels, carpets, kick panels, trim bits all renewed. The windshield is a mint OEM Sigla piece – impossible to find now. The original exterior trim has been re-anodized to replicate the original look and finish, all emblems are new Ferrari parts as are the lights. Every switch, gauge, gauge face, trim ring, lighted dial, all renewed, cleaned or replaced. The console switch-gear was replaced with NOS items, even the switch plates and dash warning lamps are NOS. The throttle pedal was rebuilt, powder coated and re-greased. All new pedal rubbers and cables replaced. Stainless trim bits polished and re-installed.

To make this car ‘better than new' but using OEM parts was my mission. To this end, the switches switch. The windows go up silently and quickly. New, pliable weatherstripping throughout. The car is quieter, smoother, tighter and more agile than new. I searched for years to find a perfect, correct, original NOS MOMO wheel for this car to no avail, my only choice was to use a reproduction wheel that duplicates the correct MOMO look and feel which completes the interior. The interior of this car, in look, feel, and smell is that of a brand new car.

BOTTOM LINE: There is nothing that was left untouched, and obviously too much to list here. Whatever additional spares left over go with the car that were not re-used (not sold separately, they go with the car). No spare engine or major components, just small items like lights and odds and ends.

I'm clearly in love with this car, and quite intimate with it. (Sounding a little more personal than I'd intended!) But your options to ‘recreate this' are to…

1. Find a new 1979 308GTB entombed somewhere from new. Good luck. And when you go to actually ‘drive it' get ready to start your own restoration! Most "preserved" cars atrophy beneath their unscathed appearance. Don't take my word for it; ask around.

2. Get that ‘bargain' of a neglected 308 and do it yourself. If you have 3 years to pay someone or 5-6 years to do it yourself, plus the know how, go for it. Be ready for 2,000 phone calls, 4,000 emails, 1,500 broken promises, 1,000 missed deadlines, and well, you get the picture. After that, make sure the car all goes back together, runs, starts, stops, drives, turns, shifts, lights and all that. Then you get to ‘sort it out'! By the end of this, there will be zero financial advantage.

3. Buy this car. It is a ‘new' but better Ferrari 308, and perhaps Ferrari's most driveable, loveable, usable and potentially most beautiful model ever.

As for the price, basically, if you took what I paid for PARTS ALONE and added it all up, you'd be at the RESERVE PRICE of this car. That's right. Free labor, and virtually everything in "Option 2" above, free of charge. Kind of hard to go wrong there.

This opportunity is now. It is in front of you… and millions of others. It is also advertised at various enthusiast sites across the world. I want the RIGHT PERSON to own this special car. It is for sale NOW.

I also have no idea how much shipping is to this location or that. I can suggest a professional transporter and assist in arranging delivery to the new owner.

Lastly, for the serious prospect, I'd love to talk to you. Just email your questions and/or leave a phone number. I'd be happy to tell you anything you want to know about this ‘new' 308.

<![CDATA[Bentley And Land Rover For Sale, Were Celebri... Uh, Wrestler-Owned!]]> Wrestletainer Dave Batista is clearing his garage! He's put an okay 2008 Land Rover and a very nice Bentley up on eBay, but there's only a day or so left. Loser gets hit with a folding chair!

The Land Rover is the supercharged model with custom rims and some aftermarket trim added, big threatening speakers in the trunk, and paint as Alaska White as the WWE fanbase. We can only assume it's for sale because it turned on him in a surprising act of sudden treachery!

The Continental Speed GT has had some mild chip-and-exhaust work, a grille kit, and custom wheels, but is mostly stock. Like Batista, it probably needs belts, but we assume it face-heel turns on a dime.

<![CDATA[Reigning in the Rain: 1965 Sebring Sprite Up For Auction]]> The '65 Sebring Race was noteworthy for both rain and Jim Hall's Chaparral stealing the chequered from better-funded competitors Ford and Ferrari. While the big dogs slid through the slush, one little Sprite showed them all how it was done.

Here's a rare find on eBay- a Donald Healey Company-engineered and built endurance Sprite- purported to be the class winner at the 1965 12-hours of Sebring.

Sprites competed at Sebring from their inception, and each year they got a little faster and less bug-eyed. By '65 the factory was campaigning a pair of aerodynamic coupes with Lola-like noses and kamm tails. While there's no documentation that this is the same #61 that came in fifteenth overall that year, the seller spins a riveting account of driving to the track in his 1961 Frog-eye and watching this car dice it up with, among others, the GT40s and Porsche 904s. He goes on to detail his being reunited with the car, and its rebirth under the direction of its creator- Donald Healey:

Fifteen years later to the day of that race I found and bought this car. I shipped it back to England and Geoff and Donald Healey restored the car to the original Sebring specs (including the crap Lucas coils). The car even has a new set of the original Dunlop rain tires it ran on. The car is original and as run at Sebring in 65. When the car was returned to me Geoff and Donald gave me their file for the car from Sebring. Entry form, tech inspection sheet and even the shipping documents from England to Sebring. I already had the program and poster for the race. And I had photos of the car in the rain. Shortly after that I got another package and in that envelop were pictures of the car being built. They even gave me their original line drawing of the car before they began construction. I have misplaced the line drawing but will find it and everything goes with the car. There is a spare windshield for the car and multiple rear diffs with different gear ratios. The paint has some cracks, but I left it this way as this is how it came from the Healey shop. This is a great piece of racing history from the greatest era of road racing…the 60's.

This fascinating piece of racing history is currently bid up to over $145,000, with less than a day to go in the auction. One hopes that the eventual buyer will let others enjoy seeing it in action once again, although possibly not in the pouring rain.

<![CDATA[Living With a Gas Turbine Is Not For the Faint of Heart]]> Remember the turbine-powered Porsche 928 from last May? Barely a year and a half after its debut on eBay, it was sold yet again—for $7500.

While the rat-tat-tat of owner changes is perhaps an indication of the Boeing-Porsche’s build quality, the sale is a great opportunity to shoot yet another gallery of this awful yet absolutely wonderful car. If you, dear reader, end up being its next owner in 2010, please rent a medium format back and give the Porsche the photographic treatment it deserves before you send it flying into the unfriendly skies.

On the other hand, if you’re interested in a proper jet car with looks to match its source of power, look no further that the Ghia Gilda Streamline X Coupé, also known as the coolest Chrysler ever made.

<![CDATA[Welcome To Kentucky, Here's Your Six-Wheeled El Camaro]]> We couldn't believe our eyes when we first saw this six-wheeled, Road-Runner-spoilered, Ferrari-straked "El Camaro" in flat black primer hailing from Ashland, Kentucky. The bold scent of awesome and Schlitz practically wafts from the eBay listing.

Go ahead, pretend you aren't magnetically drawn to the distilled perfection of this magnificent machine. It's got everything a follically gifted and dentally challenged buyer could possibly want. The high rear spoiler is perfect for pretending you're Richard Petty at Daytona, the enormous steel-floored bed is aching for either a garage full of partially complete 70's-era motorcycles or a mobile moonshine still, the Camaro nose sets you apart from the crowd and Ferrari-like side strakes add just enough class to help the odds during ladies night. And then there's the double axle action powered by a good ole V8 engine. Great El Camino? Or greatest El Camino ever? Let the owner convince you if the pictures haven't already:

For sale is a 1980 Chevy Elcamino. This car does runs n drives good. The carb isnt very good.I drive this car every day, this car was originally in car shows until about 7 yrs ago,it has been in magazines also. This car has set in a mans back yard for the last 7 or 8 yrs i bought this car about a yr ago i do drive it daily.I put the car in primer when i bought it,the frame n body is in good shape frame is not rusted out.

<![CDATA[Another Batch Of Driveshaft Through The Skull Shirts Available!]]> I've been working on Walker Canada to print up some cheap Noch Ein Scheiß-E30 shirts for our readers, but no dice on that effort so far. However, he did make some more DTTS shirts!

The key to Walker's shirt business is that the merchandise must be cheap. That means that he's doing all his screening in his garage, using factory-second shirts in generally unappetizing colors. Because he's letting the 24 Hours Of LeMons Supreme Court stay at his race shack across the street from Carolina Motorsports Park, I'm handling the eBay part of the deal… which means I'm going all Mean LeMons Judge on you wannabe shirt buyers. First of all, you don't get to choose the color! Because I'm sorta softhearted by Mean LeMons Judge standards, I'll let you specify the color you don't want to get, so if you're one of those guys who thinks your testes will evaporate if you get caught wearing pink (for example), feel free to indulge your insecurities by requesting that I not ship you a pink shirt. If pink (or baby blue, or laundry-dyeing red) is all that's left by the time you buy your shirt, that's what you'll get! Shipping cost is exactly what the USPS charges for domestic or international Priority Mail Flat-Rate envelope, and I might just sneak some 24 Hours Of LeMons stickers in a few of those envelopes.

<![CDATA[1985 Ford Mustang GT With Only 99 Miles On The Clock]]> The 1985 Ford Mustang GT is a popular model, having the distinction of being the last year of the 5.0 HO V8 with a Holley 4-barrel carb. Imagine finding one with less than 100 miles on the odometer.

According to the original seller it was purchased on August 15th, 1985 and then driven into climate controlled storage in Ottumwa Iowa. We can't guess why this person never drove it, but we're guessing the person now in possession wants a ton for it as evidenced by the $11,600 "reserve not met" price. If you do bid on it make sure to check the fluids and seals before driving it off the lot, unless you want to try to make it to 100 miles on 24-year-old gas.

This Hammer conversion has the same 375 HP V8 under hood, but with seating for seven and just 27,000 miles. Given that we've seen these get offered for upwards of $50K with such low mileage, the asking price of just $25,000 seems to be more than reasonable when you consider the engine was worked over by a mechanic we're told, could "be on Mars, with one arm, and blind, and still be better than most of the engine builders out there."

Unfortunately, no one purchased the vehicle and the auction ended without a single bid. Perhaps this can be a fortunate occasion for some lucky bidder? The guy's email address is still on the page if someone is interested...

<![CDATA[EBay Says No Deal Yet With GM]]> Remember that deal GM had this morning with EBay to experiment with auctioning new cars? The one designed to make the ol' Detroit automaker look innovative? Turns out there's no deal with EBay. When will GM learn?

Hey, GM, would you mind meeting us over at camera three for a minute?

OK, GM, seriously, between us, you've got to stop this whole half-assed PR thing. It's no longer about doing things to make you look good, or looking for ways to make people think you're looking good, it's about actually doing good. So if you've got the idea to work on a deal with EBay, work on a deal with EBay, finish it and then announce it. Don't announce that you're thinking of possibly engaging in talks on a deal to try stuff out with EBay and then have EBay turn around and call you out for not actually doing anything.

In most cases it's ridiculous to use Apple in comparison with GM because, well, they're two completely different types of companies, but one way it works is PR. When Steve Jobs announces a new product, he's got it ready to hit stores and it's going on sale that day. Not three months from now. Not six months from now. Of course, autos are a different deal. I know it takes five years to bring a new car to market. But we're not talking about cars — we're talking about PR. Or what you should be calling PR instead of the shit you've pulled recently like the "deal" with Segway for the PUMA or now this "deal" with EBay. Quit coming to the public with half a thing and come to the public when you've got the whole thing.

I don't know if this constantly half-baked idea problem is an issue with Steve Harris's PR team or if it's an issue with the entire C-suite, but fercrissakes, quit doing what looks like the equivalent of walking out of a bathroom with your zipper down and the back of your shirt tucked into your underwear. Frankly, you look like the jackass old guy in the office who still talks about the good ol' days when he could play grab-ass with the secretarial pool. No offense, Bob.

The point is, if you want to be considered a world-class automaker with world-class, innovative ideas, you've got to actually have some world-class, innovative ideas — which it sounds like you do — but then you have to deliver on them. But if you keep coming up with great ideas and then fall down on the implementation and marketing of them, you're never going to figure out you've got your shirt tucked into your ass crack.

<![CDATA[GM Partners With EBay To Auction New Cars]]> We always hear complaints about the new car buying process being antiquated and "old n' busted." GM's apparently seeking to change that as it emerges from bankruptcy by partnering with eBay for new car auctions.

Although the salient details are slim as of now, here's what we know from today's press release announcing the "New GM", aka the "General Motors Company.":

"We're also working on new ways to make car buying more convenient for our customers, including an innovative new partnership with eBay in California to revolutionize how people buy vehicles online," Henderson said. "Customers will be able to bid on actual vehicles just like they do in an eBay auction, including the option of choosing a predetermined 'buy it now' price. We'll be testing this and other ideas with our dealers over the next few weeks, and hope to expand and build upon them in the coming months. In all cases, our goal is to make the shopping and buying process as easy as possible for GM customers - on their time and their terms. Stay tuned."

We're told by GM CEO Fritz Henderson that it's "just an experiment." But they are "really excited about it."

So no idea yet as to whether it'd be for all vehicles, whether it would be for just a select few vehicles. The biggest hurdle such an idea faces is the dealer network. More than likely the line in the press release of "testing this and other ideas with our dealers over the next few weeks" indicates it'll more than likely be the dealers who'll be providing these services as opposed to direct-from-manufacturer sales. Either way, as long as the consumer experience is eBay-like, it won't matter to them as they'll perceive it to be direct-from-manufacturer — which is often how they perceive the experience now.

<![CDATA[Lincoln Sentinel Concept: Buy It Now For $48,500!]]> There's a chance to own a piece of Ford history on eBay — the Blade Runner-esque, Lincoln Sentinel concept from 1995. This questionably-styled, rolling retro-futuristic concept chassis can be yours for a buy-it-now price of just $48,500.

The 1995 Lincoln Sentinel concept was originally first up for auction back in April, when O.C. Welch Ford Lincoln-Mercury in Hardeeville, South Carolina tried to unload it from their personal collection for $80,000. With a foul-mouthed economy the concept didn't sell the first time around which drastically lowered the buy-it-now price by $31,500.

Unfortunately the car for auction isn't a full runner, rather a non-functional rolling chassis with a waterline interior (industry speak for an exterior only model), but regardless of its inability to be driven, you can still have quite a bit of fun adding this to your collection. <![CDATA[1965 Chrysler Newport Is Homage To Cigarette Pack, Seller Claims It Fits 10 Dead Prostitutes In Trunk]]> If your car shares the same name as a popular brand of menthol smokes, you might as well go ahead and paint the thing to resemble a gasper pack, right? Of course!

That's what the seller of this '65 Chrysler Newport did, and now- for reasons we don't understand- he's trying to sell this gorgeous machine on eBay. If you've already got a Plymouth Belvedere painted to look like a pack of Belvedere cigarettes, then you owe it to your blackened lungs to add this Mopar to your stable. This tip comes courtesy of JC Whitless, who asked the seller "How many dead prostitutes will fit in the trunk? I need to know if it will hold more than five, as my daily commute route has changed due to carpooling" and got the helpful, if confusingly punctuated, response: "AT LEAST 10 ,,PEOPLE." There ya go!

<![CDATA[Hummer H1 Ugly Edition: Slant Nose, Ostrich Skin Interior]]> The car that will tell everyone you haven't moved on from your days as a semi-successful TV action star in the early ‘90s, this horribly ugly slant-nosed Hummer H1 is one of only two ever made.

It should be noted this vehicle brings many upgrades over the standard H1 in addition to the fiberglass bodywork and hidden coke-smuggling compartments. Topping the list is a $2,000 airhorn, but also look for a host of upgraded interior electronics including two rear view camera displays, three TV screens that you won't be able to hear over the turbo-diesel engine, carbon fiber dash accents and yes, Ostrich skin on the headlining, transmission tunnel and even the carpets. Last but not least, the roof detaches in three panels, because with a truck like this, you're going to want people to see you driving it.

One of 2 ever prodouced this slant nose hummer is stunning and gets more attention than all other exotics. With over $185,000 invested this H-1 Hummer has a beefed up Turbo Diesel engine, GAW custom tuned computer engine magement system. Stainless exhaust system, A 3 peice REMOVABLE HARD TOP (Yes this is a Hard Top convertible !!!). Ploished alluminum wheels, Alluminum Air intake snorkel, Carbon Fiber dash accents, Leather seating, Ostrich Dash & Headliner, Ostrich lined carpeting throughout. An I-Pod controled Audio/Video System with 3 TV screens, Navagation System, Rear View Mirror is another TV Screen with dual back up cameras. And last but not least a $2,000 Nathan Air Chime Train Horn.

<![CDATA["Happy Jack" Wooden Hummer Replica A Questionable Off-Roader]]> Remember the "Happy Jack" Hummer commercial with the soapbox H2 that doesn't stand a chance against speedier competition till the kid driver goes off-road to win the race? Well, someone built a crappy replica and it's for sale on EBay.

It's almost like rule 34 of the internet, if a marketing hobo imagines a clever thing, someone, somewhere will replicate it in real life. Such is the case here with the Happy Jack Hummer, or, as the builder/owner would like for it to be know as, the "Dummer", it's built on 90's-era Chevy S10 chassis and uses all the finest in plywood veneer's to attain that popular Hummer look. But be careful potential buyer, this creation comes with some pitfalls, such as the infamous "ran when parked" status, which could mean anything from mint condition to rat-eaten wiring with petrified bearing grease, good luck with that. It's supposedly an "off-road vehicle," but it's more like a parade vehicle for your goofy old neighbor down the street.

Here's the original "Happy Jack" ad, just in case you forgot. (Hat tip to Chad!)

<![CDATA[Model Hell Continues To Beckon: Vintage AMC SC/Rambler Kit In 1:25 Scale!]]> I managed to avoid adding the Revell Gaga and the 1:16 scale first-gen Civic to my Model Hell Garage, but this one is proving even tougher to resist.

It's a still-in-shrinkwrap Jo-Han 1:25 scale kit of one of my two favorite musclecars of all time: the '69 AMC SC/Rambler. The current top bid is just $3.25, but there's a week to go. How much would you pay for this rare red-white-and-blue beast?
