The Kia Forte goes on sale in the US later this year as the replacement for the underwhelming Spectra. While our Forte will have a fourbanger, this Kia LPI Hybrid features a small electric motor and a Liquefied Petroleum Injected engine, capable of combining for 124 HP and 41 MPG US. The lithium polymer (li-poly) battery will be supplied by LG Chem, who is also supplying the same battery for the Chevy Volt.

In addition to launching their first production hybrid, Kia also announced their Eco-Dynamics brand, a sub-brand dedicated to green vehicles (we assume they mean ecological and not just neon Hulk green). It's unclear whether or not this brand will make it to the U.S., but the company has plans to bring the Eco-Dynamics-branded vehicles to the international market.

<![CDATA[Kia Forte Coupe Caught Testing In South Korea]]> The Kia Forte was just unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show, now we've got spy shots of the Kia Forte Coupe. Based on the profile and the sedan styling, this might actually be a looker.

This heavily disguised Forte Coupe was spotted in a parking lot somewhere in South Korea and if the shape is any indication it might be a pretty nice little ride. Based on the headlights, shape of the nose, and the lower fascia divot revealed when the spy shooter lifted the camo a bit, this car will be getting a lot of elements from the sedan transferred directly. That's not a terrible thing considering for the segment and price point the Forte isn't a bad looking car to begin with. Mated to the 2.4-liter inline-four with 173 HP and the six speed manual out of the Forte SX, this could be a riot of a front-driver.

Word on the street is the Kia Forte Coupe will be in US dealers by next December, so watch out for a reveal between now and the end of the year. Until then, go HERE for the above image in full resolution, and head over to Kia-World for the whole gallery of images and a whopping batch of Kia love.

<![CDATA[2010 Kia Forte: Live In Chicago]]> This morning, we brought you news of Kia's newest entry in the compact market. This afternoon, Kia revealed its all-new 2010 Kia Forte econobox warrior.

With the 2010 Forte, Kia is continuing its makeover that started with the Kia C'eed and has continued with the Soul. No longer content to put out bare-bones, low budget transportation appliances, Kia is moving upscale (relatively speaking) and taking aim squarely at the head of the class; namely, the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. The interior materials are astoundingly tolerable, the list of standard features is long, and the amount of horsepower is high. Kia also revealed plans to build 50% of their cars in the United States by 2013. Take the badge off and you could have a respectable car.

KIA MOTORS AMERICA INTRODUCES ALL-NEW KIA FORTE

CHICAGO, Feb. 11, 2009 – On the heels of announcing the widely acclaimed, all-new Kia Soul, Kia Motors America (KMA) today introduced the all-new 2010 Kia Forte (pronounced for-tay) compact sedan at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. Forte blends Kia's exciting new design direction under the tutelage of Peter Schreyer, Kia Motors' chief design officer, with a multitude of standard features. The 2010 Kia Forte will go on sale in North America in late spring or early summer of 2009.

"Kia Motors' product line is rapidly evolving and the Forte compact sedan is another head turner," said B.M. Ahn, group president and CEO, KMA and KMMG. "The Forte is an aggressively stylish blend of comfort and practicality – and with a host of standard features it provides the great quality and value that consumers have come to expect from Kia vehicles."

Style in Motion

Sporting stylish and aggressive design cues, the new Forte firmly establishes itself as a strong contender in its segment. With a bold look set apart by crisp lines, swept-back headlamps and a sleek profile, Forte exudes a confident stance that conveys motion both while cruising the highway and parked in the driveway. Available in three trim levels (LX, EX and SX), Forte offers a sleek, sophisticated design. The sportier SX trim offers a more athletic profile with 17-inch alloy wheels paired with P215/45R17-sized premium tires and a rear spoiler.

Smooth and Comfortable Ride

With a wheelbase of 104.3 inches, an overall length of 178.3 inches, an overall width of 69.9 inches and overall height of 57.5 inches, Forte offers one of the roomiest interiors in its class with seating for up to five passengers. The Kia-engineered body achieves high torsional stiffness giving Forte better handling, smoother ride quality and greater refinement than its competitors, with a specially tuned suspension adjusted perfectly for responsive handling on curvy roads. Additional refinements are fitted throughout Forte to help ensure a comfortable ride with good noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) reduction qualities.

Built on a front-wheel-drive unibody frame, Forte utilizes an independent front suspension with MacPherson struts and a stabilizer bar and a torsion beam rear suspension with struts and coil springs. This combination helps provide the optimal balance of handling and comfort. An engine-speed-sensitive, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system adds the finishing touch for precise handling by providing the most advantageous amount of assist for varying road conditions. In keeping with the sporty essence of the SX model line, a sport-tuned suspension gives the chassis a firmer feel and responsiveness resulting in a sportier and more spirited ride. The SX model also features larger front brakes for improved stopping capabilities.

Attractive and Practical Interior

Forte boasts a class-leading¹ 96.8 cubic feet of passenger volume, while driver and passengers have an impressive 40.0 inches of headroom and 43.3 inches of legroom in the front seats and 37.8 inches of headroom and 35.0 inches of legroom in the rear seats. Forte's trunk also offers an impressive 14.7 cubic feet of cargo space, one of the largest in its class, perfect for luggage for weekend getaways.

Capitalizing on its spacious interior, Forte pampers its riders with a host of interior features, starting with comfortable, nicely appointed full cloth seats. A six-way adjustable driver's seat, tilt steering column, rear defroster and dual 12-volt power outlets in the center console are driver- and passenger-conscious luxuries standard on every vehicle.

EX and SX models offer a number of additional standard luxurious touches such as: power windows and door locks; remote keyless entry; air conditioning; map lamps; steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls; dual front and rear cup holders; and floor mats. Forte EX and SX models also include standard cruise control with an optional sunroof and leather-trimmed seats. Also standard on SX models is a telescoping steering column as well as sport cloth seats adorned with red stitching, further enhancing its energetic persona.

Peppy Performance

Forte LX and EX are powered by a 2.0-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine, producing 156 horsepower and 144 pound-feet of torque, that features Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) and multi-port electronic fuel injection, both of which provide for greater performance and fuel economy. The SX features an upgraded 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine, also with CVVT, which delivers 173 horsepower – more than the most powerful versions of the Toyota Corolla¹ or even the 2010 Mazda3.

Two transmission options are offered for the 2010 Forte: a standard five-speed manual transmission or an optional electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission (LX and EX models). The SX model features a standard six-speed manual transmission and an optional five-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic®.

The optional Fuel Economy Package, available with the 2.0-liter powerplant, will include the five-speed automatic transmission, Motor Drive Power Steering and low-rolling resistance tires with aero enhancements. These improvements result in class-leading combined fuel economy of 36 mpg (highway).

Music that Moves

Forte comes with a standard four speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system outfitted with SIRIUS Satellite Radio capabilities with three months complimentary service². Standard on all models is an auxiliary audio input jack and USB port for connecting personal MP3 players. Standard Bluetooth® connectivity enables hands-free operation for compatible cell phones. For true audiophiles, the EX and SX packages also add a standard six speaker surround audio system and steering wheel controls.

Standard Kia Motors Safety

Forte offers a class-leading level of standard safety equipment, with features such as active front headrests, advanced two-stage airbags, front seat-mounted and side curtain airbags, four-wheel disc brakes with an antilock brake system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC) and traction control (TCS), and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Industry-Leading Warranty

Like all Kia models, Forte is covered by a comprehensive warranty program, which offers unprecedented consumer protection. Included in this program are a 10-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, a five-year or 60,000-mile limited basic warranty, and a five-year or 100,000-mile anti-perforation warranty. A five-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance plan is also part of the comprehensive coverage program.

2009 Product Line

Kia Motors America offers a dynamic and diverse product line of 11 vehicles to meet the needs of all lifestyles. The 2009 vehicle line features the functional Rondo CUV and award-winning Sedona minivan along with a wide variety of popular passenger cars, including the refined Amanti full-size sedan, purposeful Optima midsize sedan, versatile and compact Spectra and Spectra5, and sporty yet fuel-efficient Rio and Rio5 subcompacts. <![CDATA[2010 Kia Forte Is The New Spectra]]> The 2010 Kia Forte, a replacement for the dull Spectra, is one the first salvos in Kia's battle to enhance its image. Perhaps the 173 HP, six-speed manual-equipped SX will find its target.

Similar to the already debuted Korean 2009 Kia Forte, the new Forte was supposed to be the new Spectra. We're guessing the company decided to move away from the name, which didn't have much of a positive reputation in this country.

Available in LX, SX or EX trim, the Forte has a leg up on its predecessor in both the style and features departments. Both the LX and EX versions get a 2.0-liter DOHC fourbanger good for 156 HP and 144 lb-ft of torque featuring CVVT. The sporty SX gets a 2.4-liter inline-four delivering 173 HP, which they claim is more powerful than the most powerful versions of the Toyota Corolla and 2010 Mazda3. Ahem, 2010 Mazdaspeed3. Boasting aside, it's a lot of power for a small Kia. Mated to a six-speed manual transmission, the Kia Spectra has some sleeper potential.

The list of options is fairly high for a small car, including standard Bluetooth and an audio input jack and USB port for iPod connectivity. Move up to the EX or SX packages and a six-speed system with steering wheel controls is also available. Full details in the press release below.

<![CDATA[2009 Kia Forte: The Car Of The Futurist?]]> We've already shown you the surprisingly attractive 2009 Kia Forte and now, thanks to Kia-World, we have a treasure-trove of pictures as well as some more information on the Spectra replacement. According the all-things-Kia site, the new Forte will come with small gas and diesel engine options when it debuts in Korea, with a 2.0-liter engine to follow, likely for the US market. Speaking of the US market, Kia plans to export 200,000 units abroad in 2009 and we assume a lot of those are set to head this way. How will they fight off the Chevy Cruze and other comers?

Aiming for the buyer that wants a lot of features for a little scratch, the Forte will come with high-end tidbits including a Bluetooth smart key, a voice-recognition-enabled nav system, side and curtain airbags, Vehicle Dynamic Control and active headrests. Couple that with the sharp exterior and you've got a vehicle that could expand the brand's market share. That being said, we don't really understand how this is a "futurist" vehicle and not a "futuristic" vehicle. [Kia-World]

<![CDATA[2009 Kia Forte Sheet Metal Meets Web, Web Likey]]> Here it is folks. Apparently the speculation's now over and we've no more need for silly teaser shots — here's the official press shots of the new replacement for the Kia Spectra/Cerato, the 2009 Kia Forte sedan. Our snap judgement? It's not too shabby looking. In fact, in comparison to the Spectra, it's downright hot. Want one? You'll have to wait, the sedan model will supposedly enter the U.S. market by mid-2009 — for now, it goes on sale on August 22nd in Korea. We'll have more info as we get it. For the moment, soak up the silver images we've got below.

<![CDATA[Kia Forte Teaser Pics Quietly Slip Out]]> Kia's very quietly revealed what appear to be photos of their upcoming Spectra-replacement, the Kia Forte. The new shots continue to show the Korean automaker's moving at a definitively un-Kia-like high speed towards a new, bolder design direction. We've seen it indicated already by the Kia Soul, Kia Koup and now the new Forte. Taking styling cues from the Koup concept, the 2009 Kia Forte looks to be a potentially excellent replacement for the little econobox.

Although there's no solid word on whether or not the Spectra replacement will keep the name "Forte", considering the Spectra name doesn't have much of what we'd call "brand identity," it's not as though it would hurt sales. We've also not yet heard word on whether new engines will be offered. What we do know is that the Forte is set to debut in Korea at the end of August, meaning that we'll probably know everything about it by the beginning of July, or whenever the always-excitable Korean press corps get their hands on it.
