    Honda has a Civic type R 5dr hatch... just bouncing around in Canada.


    Yes... LETS PRETEND.


    Then lets ask Ford if they have a front drive 5dr hatch, with a solid reliable rep and good / consistant resale after 5yrs.


    Not to mention..
    I could get the same car from HONDA 10yrs after this bodystyle... and every generation.. AFTER THAT.


    That ALONE tells me to buy Honda.
    Even IF that 5dr hatch ISNT in Canada.


    Now..
    Pose that same question.. agaisnt the Mazda 3 5dr hatch in the SPEED version..


    And Fords aint got shit.
    They also refuse to bring the RS over..


    I call it BANK with a big UPRIGHT H on the grille and hind quarters..

    This would make a little more sense if they based "better car" on actual facts and specifications. The Taurus is the most powerful family sedan right? Excluding the expensive European competition that is. It would at the very least get people actually doing research on cars, and realizing where Ford's products stand in light of competition.

    @Flathead Smith: Performance cars are the most fun to test-drive.


    Some dealers will give you the car for the day- usually only SUVs though, around here anyway.

    Read the fine print - only applies if you buy a car built in Canada. That ought to keep the expenditures way down.

    @leavethegun-takethecannoli: I'd never really thought of it that way, but you're absolutely right. I might take a Civic over a Focus, but only until they bring the Euro Focus over. And really, knowing that the Euro Focus is on its way, the Civic wouldn't really be a serious consideration if that's what I were looking for. I'd wait; you'd be a fool not to.

    It'll still be worth their money if you test something good - like the Taurus, say, or the Fusion - and say "hey, that's a nice car", go off and buy a Honda, but recommend these strange new Fords to a couple friends of yours, who may go in and have a look for themselves.


    Even if it results in a net profit loss and has only a tiny impact on sales, it'll still improve brand perception among consumers who remember...


    ...well, you aren't going to believe this, but a perfectly-timed beat-up second-gen Taurus, metallic cranberry, just drove by with a rod knock and half its hubcaps missing, as if to illustrate my point.

    @FP - tittin' and shittin' with Tomsk: You know, I test drove an Acura RL and a Lincoln MKZ for a review last year. In virtually every way, except for the noise-cancelling stereo, I preferred the Lincoln, despite its softer ride. I think the TL still wins out, but the fact that Lincoln is a serious competitor is a big improvement from only a few years ago.

    @TrojanMan88: How about a couple of years ago when, for a few brief moments, the Canadian dollar was worth more than a US dollar in exchange rates? It still wasn't worth as much in real terms (purchasing power), but foreign governments just weren't buying US dollars.


    When I was in Canada for Thanksgiving in 2007, a US dollar was worth about 96 Canadian cents.

    @Vkoslak: Rumour is that there should be an EcoBoosted V6 Mustang out shortly, and relatively speaking, the Mustang, at roughly 3500 lbs, is already significantly lighter than its competition, and approximately the same as a Genesis coupe.
