    I realize we may all be holding our cars together with baling wire and duct tape if things continue as they are for an extended length of time, but the thing I keep thinking about is how there'll be a pent up demand for cars eventually, as the pool of good used cars over the next couple of years gets exhausted, and as all cars will continue to wear out. Eventually the world will actually NEED new cars, so you'd think IF anyone can hang on during this down time, when things turn around they'll be poised to capitalize on the demand at the point that things recover.

    @nosirrahg: There always is. People aren't buying because of the recession (read: fear) and because, unless you have a decent credit score, you can't get financing very easily.


    Which isn't really a major problem, since cheap financing is one of the factors that got us in this mess. But I digress.


    Whenever there is a recession, people stop buying stuff. Which tends to make things worse in the short term. However, once the fear subsides people start spending and make up for the months they weren't spending. If you were planning on buying a car 6 months ago you are still going to buy a car. You just shifted your schedule a bit.


    After every good-sized recession there is a big bounce. Markets tend to overcorrect, and getting back to even usually happens pretty quick.

    @Corvette_Thunder Can Haz a Bailout now?: I still have yet to see a C30 anywhere besides a showroom or yearly dealer's autoshow here.


    I'd consider it if it weren's so freaking expensive... and had 2 more doors.

    @jaydez: I get all smiley faced and happy every time I see a C30 (seldom). It's probably the only new US-market car I'd consider buying. Marketing things to me, however, seems a bad decision. I could work for the manufacturers as an early warning system:

    One of the only things that has gone wrong with my 12 year old Ford was brake rotors warping... pretty common for Fords and MANY other brands.


    However, two $20 rotors from Autozone have lasted a LONG time as replacements. They should fix the problem, but at least its minor.

    @redbulloh: Grand Cherokees are far worse. A tech actually told me that engaging the ABS will toast the rotors every time because there isn't enough space for larger rotors. Nice engineering, dick.
