What kind of power can one get out of the old Kents? A new one could be a compelling option for my future Se7en project. There's something so romantic about side draft carbs. #fordracing
@YankBoffin: They were installed in Lotus Sevens, so there's precedent. It'd look pretty sharp, I'd wager. Tune 'em right and you can wrangle over 150, streetable and reliable. If you don't mind it being pretty danged peaky, it'll go higher.
It's got a pretty short stroke - not a lot of torque. Not so much an issue in a Seven, though, so go nuts! #fordracing
@Doc 2¢: They did. However, someone pointed out that I had dropped the wrong engine in. A mislabeled mill and my lack of attention caused me to drop in a CVH rather than a Kent, the image has been updated accordingly. #fordracing
I was reading on the Kent yesterday and thinking, "this is a good candidate for Workhorse Engine of the Day." It went into everything from the Cortina to the Ka. #fordracing
I'm sure the reintroduction of the Kent engine in the US has nothing to do with Honda getting the Fit engine approved for Formula Ford in the SCCA. #fordracing
But seriously, it was a good James May story with a bit of meat to it. And he never says if the Stig was ever released from military custody. They've probably got him in Gitmo - although Area 51 is a lot closer and he'd look good next to the greys, in a UFO. Can't wait for that 'Ringtime.
That's not a Mustang. That's just an old-style chassis with a plastic body kit that kind of looks like a Mustang.
It's a laugh that NASCAR refers to the mechanicals as "The Car of Tomorrow"... which is just a 1960s design with improved safety and designed for lower cost.
You can't even get an OHV engine in a Mustang anymore. Nor can you get 4 speed manuals anymore either.
And to keep the speed down, they put in restrictor plates and do crap to make the car less aerodynamic.
Geez... if they want to slow down the cars, why not make them run on 87 octane (instead of a special 98 octane fuel) as a starting point... then maybe require that the cars pass California emissions... that'll definitely make the cars go slower. But that also means that they'll probably have to use a newfangled technology known as "fuel injection"...
If that's a Mustang, then we must have all moved back in time and it's 1970 again...
@petersterncan: Amen. Make them at least allow update to technology that has been widely (if not universally) available on production cars for 20 years, like fuel injection. As for meeting Emissions requirements, why not; that seems like a reasonable way to have the cars make less horsepower rather than the restrictor plates and would allow NASCAR to promote how "Green" it is.
@SlowMo (actually, there's no E on my R): NASCAR most likely is successful as a fuck-you to those perceived by its fans as "tryin' to control what ah drive".
Somebody told a bunch of rum-running hoons: "Why don't you go drive in a circle- about 500 times-" It was their way of telling them to pound sand. Now they do it almost every weekend. (I know the real history of Nascar, this is my version)
This rant comes about because I had a rude guest commandeer the television to watch Nascar when myself and other guests wanted to watch the Yankee game. He was watching it first, but still. I can't wait to go to his house.

Please follow Ford's example, and build some E38 and E49 Hemi-6's. Maybe some Hyper-Pak Slant 6's too. Do it for the kids.
Thanks

True, but "Formula Fit" means you don't even need to change the decals on the car. #fordracing

And you're on the level, then what happened to the placeholder question about purple Charger v. render? #fordracing

Koni Challenge Series, Speed GT Series, FIA GT3, its own spec racing series, NHRA, NHRA funny cars, now NASCAR.
Since Ford does build so many Mustangs, I don't think it did the Mustang name any harm.
This is a good thing.
