I love Duratecs. I still see some of the common features from the 2.5L in my Contour, so I'm hoping the 3.7L is as rev-happy and snarly as the original. This sounds like an awesome combo and makes the Mustang that much more compelling to me.
Ecoboost it! Let's make the 8 the irrational choice.
The 6 keeps with the 8 because it's been to Rush Fitness Center and now has a lot less flab to drag around. Lighten the nose, it tucks better into corners. 300hp with a lighter curb weight keeps the power-to-weight ratio about the same, but it handles better with the track pack? Yeah, I'd skip the 8.
Add direct injection (which they will sooner than later) and a pair of turbos and this baby will be flying. Watch out V8s. And yes, they will most probably be a 2.0L GTDI unit in a few years which will chuck out close to 300hp. A 4 banger will be returning to the pony car after a break. Coupled with the 'Stang's usually decent weight it should not be too bad.
Boy we sure have come a long way from 5.0L V8s of the 80s producing an anemic 140hp. Who says progress is not good?
@Novaload: The tiny local airport in the podunk town I grew up in had a small fleet (3 IIRC) of Cosmos rotting away behind a hanger. Apparently the owner had a penchant for them, and had used those as parts cars to restore one example (which I never saw).
I really, really wanted to try fixing one up, being a young teenager with a love for weird cars. Those with more sense pointed out they were far too gone for any such thing......
@that ain't the way to have fun, son: Yeah, I noticed that right away. WTF? Those things are almost indestructible. It's probably waiting for you to come save it.
@that ain't the way to have fun, son: Every time I see an F-Series of that generation it reminds me of the "lil' mule" from Romancing The Stone. I thought that car was so damned cool, maybe 'cos we had nothing like that in the UK, and I was about six at the time...
