I am impressed, Ford. Give it IRS and you might actually have a new customer in me. There are few cars on the road today that consistently make me smile when I see them as much as these do. I like this quite a lot.
You can keep the 19s, though. That's a bit much. I'd like to be able to still walk upright when I'm 40.
I'm surprised the 3.7 does't have DI as that seems to be the latest "gotta have" in the engine biz now. At any rate, 305hp and 30mpg is impressive (slightly better than the Camaro's new V6). Makes me wonder how much V8 pony car sales will suffer due to the availability of serious V6s now?
This is a huge improvement over my '06 V6 convert. I'm thinking trade-up in two years.

@Turbineguy - now with reheat!!: Like Ben said, it's a punched-out 3.5, but he didn't mention that the Duratec 37 has been on the market for a while now as a Cyclone engine producing less power and torque in Lincolns and Mazdas. The power jump is probably from beefed up internals...the rev limit for the 'stang is 250 rpm higher.
Ford would have hit this one out of the ballpark by installing the DI TwinForce, but then good-bye V8 and good-bye low price tag.
@brandegee: VVT makes the difference more than the internals, but there's other stuff added too. I forgot to mention the oil squirters for the bottom of the pistons, but it's got those too.
@pauljones: Camaro can have its not-even-sixteen Transformers fan boys, Mustang can stick with the people who know what a government bailout is, and how Ford (Maker of Mustang) did not get one.
@pauljones: Additionally, Ford didn't take bailout money because doing so would require that dividends on shares held be suspended -- there goes the income for a good chunk of the Ford family! They didn't want to interrupt their income stream. Smart actually.
@pauljones: Hey now, over two decades down the road and my '89 still has the original motors in both belts. They are both smooth and silent, and move at the same constant speed. The problem is, Mr. Pauljones hasn't driven enough Tempo. Fix that!

So sums up the obligatory Mustang whining we get here. Having gotten that out of the way, I applaud Ford for making the V6 car a contender and a real alternative to the V8.
You know, I was worried about my choice of rides when the Carpocalypse got the G8 GXP cancelled. And I got even more worried when everyone talked about going to V6's. But this rocks. You can say what you want, that engine up there is a work of art. I am going to have to drive one of these, and see if the new manual and track pack live up to the hype. Just wow.
I love Duratecs. I still see some of the common features from the 2.5L in my Contour, so I'm hoping the 3.7L is as rev-happy and snarly as the original. This sounds like an awesome combo and makes the Mustang that much more compelling to me.
@pauljones: There's been an SVO for sale in my area for a while now. Looks clean and sorted, but I'm poor as a church mouse. I'd have it as a weekend car otherwise.
The instant that something desirable is finally for sale, you can't have it because it's for sale either right after or right before you can afford it, and by the time you can afford it again, it's off the market and long gone.
I feel the same way about condos right now. I had enough for a 30% down payment on a $430k condo, and then my stock portfolio, which I was only a month or two away from ditching in favor of the down payment money, went kaput. Coincidentally, the condo I wanted was reduced in price to $390k and sold, while I am still in the poor house for the foreseeable future (my stocks won't recover for a while).
Being twenty-something and single sucks donkey balls.
@pauljones: actually since you are young and single I'm surprised you havent decided to venture into the donkey ball sucking video production market, I hear its very profitable. ($430k condo, holy LOL!)

The 6 keeps with the 8 because it's been to Rush Fitness Center and now has a lot less flab to drag around. Lighten the nose, it tucks better into corners. 300hp with a lighter curb weight keeps the power-to-weight ratio about the same, but it handles better with the track pack? Yeah, I'd skip the 8.
@pj134: I'm too addicted to high fuel efficiency. If I can have monster power when I want it, and tight-fisted thriftiness the rest of the time, I couldn't care less what the V8 achieves.
@GrandmaSideways: The additional weight to reduce cowl shake is more or less offset by the heft loss in the engine and transmissions, the car ends up pretty much the weighing the same. And keep in mind, that was for the convertible.

I am twenty-three years old and a fan of both the Transformers toys I played with as a child and Megan Fox, whom I would like to play with now.
And besides, Ford didn't get a bailout because there was nothing to bailout in the first place, as Mulally had already mortgaged everything out.
And the Mustang? Still not hearing anything that can better having Megan Fox draped all over the Camaro.
