I think the 1964 Ford is absolutely beautiful! Usually, red is my choice of color, but this turquoise is really pretty. #fordgalaxie

Absolutely love '63 and '64 Fords. When I was in high school, a kid I worked at Kroger with had a black 390/at '63. This was in 1993/1994.

About a year ago I saw it driving around not 15 miles from the frocery store we worked at and the driver looked like the kid I worked with (albeit 15 years older). #fordgalaxie

The new Taurus' big, broad shouldered shape and long (for a modern car) rear deck would look perfect to me with a modern take of this pretty red car's ass. #fordgalaxie

Reminds me of the Galaxie convertible I got to take a ride into town in when I was at summer camp, with a whole other passel of kids. That one was black over black, IRRC. It ran down those gravel roads through the tall weeds just fine. And it was probably the highlight of my time at camp.

I take Tonyola's point, but this car looks pretty fine from where I'm sitting. #fordgalaxie

That does not look 45 years old. Guess that Alameda air really is magical. As for that car, it looks deliciously immaculate in every way, and those old-school American designs had so much mojo, and really does resemble a cruise ship, in a good, comfortable way.

Also, that badging really is so much more stylish than anything you find on most modern vehicles, and that font!

    Sorry, I meant that font!

PS, do you guys think Murilee is actually older than she claims to be, but just looks very good, being so well preserved by that magical air? #fordgalaxie

@Mobius: It is not the air, but the freezing cold waters of San Fransisco Bay that hold back the advances of time. It is from there that Murilee first appeared, holding aloft the key that keeps rust at bay. It is to there that Murilee will return, and leave only legend. #fordgalaxie

The 1964 big Ford was unusually ornate for the brand (at least during the '60s). Perhaps that was because this was the last year for the big Ford's platform, so marketeers thought they had to outdo the 1960-63 versions.

For 1965 Ford was back to its roots with a brand new body design that was both simpler and lighter by 300 pounds. #fordgalaxie

@DrLemming: Yeah; the leap from 64 to 65 with the stacked headlights and squared off corners was really a huge change--for the better, I thought. #fordgalaxie

@Novaload: I am biased to the '64 because we had one (Dad's favorite car to his last days), but I think the '65 looked a little stiff. I like the '65 - '67, but the '64 defines the Galaxie to me. More Galaxification, if you will.

Plus, you can't go wrong with Magnum 500 wheels, as this one appears to have. They might be a later addition, as I didn't think Ford offered them on the Galaxie. #fordgalaxie

Good-looking and one of the big-car icons of the 1960s. However, the '64 is one very heavy looking beast with that big molded-in dart on the front fenders, the wide thick-barred grille, and the massive oblong rear panel. For some reason, it has a tail-dragging appearance to me, like there's a couple too many dead hookers in the trunk. I wouldn't turn this convertible down, but I think I'd prefer a '63, '65, or '66.

When I was about 8 years old, somebody who worked for my dad needed some money and knew my dad liked old cars, so told my dad he was selling a Galaxie 500 convertible for a couple hundred bucks, a price neither exorbitant nor chump change for an older car at the time. The car was red, with a white top like this one, and was in decent condition, suitable for use as a weekend cruiser. My dad gave him the money and brought the car home. He told me it would be my car when I got my license.

My dad drove it around for a few days in top-down style, then one day, he drove it to work but came home in his other car. It seems that the guy who sold the car and the guy who actually owned it were two different people, and the owner wanted his car back. #fordgalaxie

That's the most beautiful story I've ever heard.

And I've seen The Muppet Movie at least three times.

Two cars from two different countries which had two very different political systems when built, and yet they manage to be equally rad. Thanks for sharing, BobAsh.
