@havasuracing: fo' SHO, this is just reminiscing... but my dad's '91 with every option... (moonroof, power seats, double-stacked/rear-deck 6"/8" JBL(lower level being 'mini-subs'... upper were two way mid/high--- excellent sound system) white outside.. blacked out windows and wheels..... often heard people ask (at "occasions" (parties) is that an FBI car out there...?) the thing was awesome... i miss it
This is what I don't get about Domestics. They make like 5 cars to cover one segment. Now, why do we have a taurus when we have the fusion? Why have the Milan when we have the Fusion? Why are there are always 5-6 models that are just slightly different from one another? It's not like Toyota makes 10 different midsize cars then tries to also sell a midsize under the Scion brand.
It's not much different than what VAG does with platform sharing between VW, Audi, Skoda and SEAT.
Toyota does this a little differently as they do not have the number of brands to supply models for. The Camry, Avalon, Highlander and Sienna are all basically the same underneath, as is the Lexus ES350 and RX350. That makes 6 separate car models with the same engineered underpinnings, engines, transmissions, etc.
@FormerlyPreferredCustomer: only problem with this is missing the fact that focus is supposed to be compact... LTD is large.... so it shifts the scale a bit... but just the same it works.
A part of me says WOO HOO! But another part of me thinks it's too big.
AWD is definite plus. It will have a trick engine like the original, but won't look nearly as sexy underneath a plastic cover.
There are some notable similarities with the original. The slushbox, the 140 MPH speedo, unnecessary tach and "temp" gauge. The little spoiler on the trunk lid, the trick engine, dual exhaust pipes. Will it have the sexy SHO imprints on the body kit?
How will the seats fare? Almost everyone I know who sat in the originals say they were the most comfortable they've ever sat in.
I sure hope the accessories are of better build quality than the last one (3 alternators, 3 starters, 2 batteries in 4 years)! Crank position sensor, water pump, etc.
Oh, and the TRANSMISSION!!! It probably will easily handle the high power/torque of the echoboot. A bit scary for aftermarket power increases though. Shonut could easily get 560 HP out of the old engine. Kept destroying 3rd gear (and late model Cobras ;-) ).
My tastes now are with the smaller and lighter fusion, much closer to the original SHO in dimensions. It's disappointing the 4 banger is the best driving of the new models. I guess like the original SHO, there exists the aftermarket for the brake and suspension upgrades.
@newfmike: i think the tach is necessary... and a good thing, let alone fluid temp. as far as guages go.. would be nice to see those be mandatory in all modern cars....
and the seats oh my god the seats (dad had a '91 SHO that i learned to drive stick in...) air-bag lumbar and bolsters..... from couch to "HUG-ME" in the push of a couple of buttons... i miss that........
@kingfling: Brutal, dude. Just brutal. Plus, the riv had circular tunnel like thingies in the dash you had to look through IIRC. It also had the largest doors ever put on a car. A very weird car.
@mattmacklind: two door olds aurora... i love that car... if only the riviera line hadn't been born into the family of "first ever" american front wheel drive coupe/sedans... (i still lust after a supercharged one though....... (egg from the top, nanu-nanu)
@Accordforall: i want a " lil' grocery getter for the wifey" that i want to drive instead of letting her drive... nothing like jealousy to keep a man wanting.........
if this is a real SHO.. not just a graphics/interior package (*cough... MUSTANG EDITIONS.. cough, cough*) then hell yeah.. drop a yamaha special engine in there... or even make it rwd w/something nasty enough under the hood... i'll bite.
@FadedSpark: that was disturbingly reminiscent of my later middle school year's morning television shows... (and a strange/slightly racist colour scheme for the 'heroes' of the show comes to mind... billy the blue ranger (Caucasian/american), Trini the yellow ranger (Asian-american), Jason the red ranger (native american descent)... etc... always caused a problem in my mind....)

Camry, Avalon, ES350, IS350.
Or, if you prefer to look at SUV/Cross-over segment: RAV4, Venza, Highlander, RX350.
The Fusion and the Taurus actually make sense--Focus, Fusion, Taurus. Small, medium, large.

Hmmm
If you havent noticed..
Every single vehicle on the road.. is a "lil grocery getter".
From the lowliest of Camaros from 10yrs ago.. to the G8, Vette, Solstice.
Not to mention the largest of grocery driven trashcans, Burban, Tahoe, Expedition, Armada, Seqouia, T/B etc etc.
