Instead of Truck Nutz, bolt on a three-point hitch and a PTO and the circle of automotive absolution will be complete.
Leave off the damn LS2 - screw in a big 4-pot diesel complete with its lumpy 4.6-Richter-scale idle. A rockcrawler isn't supposed to go fast, it's just supposed to go. I think the diesel is more in tune with that mission.
Yeah, right, like Toyota needs yet another SUV to add to the stable. Where exactly does this slot? Between RAV and Highlander? And the full cage may add real safety, but the 35-50 demographic values interior space very highly and won't stand for it. Plus, even if it has decent economy, it's about image...the thing looks like a military vehicle, for crying out loud. I'd be glad to focus group it, but I'm just telling you not to get your hopes up. Dual live axles? You and I both know this is ideal for offroading, but this isn't a Ford Mustang--our buyers will know the difference the first time they ride in it. I suppose we could TRD-badge it and catch some of the purist market, but what about cannibalization of the new, retro FJ Cruiser? I know people complain about outward visibility, but simply removing the sides and back seems a little knee-jerk to me, Jim. Sure, it might be nice in Spring in the Sun Belt, but what about 90% of the country who goes through actual seasons? All I'm saying is we need to add walls, extra seats, two more doors, fully independent suspension, roadworthy tires, soften the corners a bit, and maybe we'll have something. How long will that take?
Too bad no manufacturer makes a light weight 4wd pickup convertible. Maybe that is just too small a market. But given that the bloated option laden gas guzzlers are not selling, maybe it is time that someone test the market.
@Sloop_John_B: I'm right there with you. But no V8 for me. I'll dust off a 22R from some wrecked '82 truck and bolt that in, call it macaroni. No foolishness here, just basic transportation in the classic Doc Brown vein:

That said, the stock one running around Antrim is still cooler. I'll let Murilee know if I get any shots.
