A custom Quattroporte estate built by Carrozzeria Touring. It was the first thing we stumbled into after hour 12-hour night drive, totally unlisted in the press kit, and I thought, oooo-kay, we've arrived.
@clinto: Yeah- weirdos. I bet there isn't even a group of fat balding guys playing crappy covers of Beach Boys songs there.. and where's the swap meet section and local field-hockey girls selling T-shirts and baseball caps? No sausage-sandwich stand? Y'know what, except for the complete lack of Camaros and Mustangs, this car carshow sucks, man! I want my 5 bucks back.
The kid in the above pic looks like he could care less about the Mantide. Just waiting for something more photo-worthy to roll along so he can snap a photo.
@DonLuc: Everybody knows kids are dipshits. Hell, I don't even really like the Mantide, but if I saw that shit in person I'd use all 4 gigs of my memory card.
Peter, that Miura shot is beautifully composed, you wouldn't happen to have that in 1440x900 would you? It's been some time since I was behind the wheel of Miura, but that's another one I wouldn't mind getting all Tawny Kitaen over.
@Dr.Danger is a pottymouth: You can go direct to Milan out of most large US cities for about $500-$600 if you hurry (summer season starts in a couple weeks). Como is maybe an hour by train.
As long as you don't mind the long flight, sore ass, and DVT-induced heart attack possibilities, this could be done on a long weekend for under $1,000.
i can see this kind of event as either very fun or very obnoxious, or both. ie cars = awesome, proprietors = obnoxious. "you, get avay vrom my buuuugatti, you're casting shadow on it"
@roaduscarnivorous:An even worse shame is how some of these things aren't even driven like they should and are instead shoved in boxes and kept clean only for shows, but hey what can you do it's their cars.
@doctor 1 penny: Some are! There was a black Iso Grifo on display that showed clear signs of wear from daily use. And the owner, an older German dude, was totally cool.
@doctor 1 penny: I love polo shirts. They fit like a t-shirt, hang like a t-shirt, but most people consider them formal enough that you won't get glared at in church or a place like this.
@TheGuinnessTooth: I didn't know anyone felt strongly about polo shirts, either for or against. My closet is full of them for the reasons you mentioned. There is just no alternative for short-sleeve "casual but not dumpy"

They don't dress like they just left a Hooters on their way to tattoo/biker event when they go to their car shows.

Regardless, this isn't the point. How cool would it be to drive that car?
