    Good luck to all those waiting for the new replacement part. Hope it gets installed before the rest of the economy and Nissan itself collapse.

    I was thinking WTF about a corrosion failure going undetected in a closed-loop system like those for airbags. Then I read the press release, which clearly states the airbag warning light on the dash WILL illuminate, so the margin for safety is not too narrow. I personally wouldn't ignore my airbag light if it came on after the lamp test concludes.

    @Charles_Barrett - Now with Variable-Valve Timing: Ignoring the airbag warning light probably depends on the age/value of the vehicle. Some of the ones from the 1990s are getting where the cost of fixing the airbag is more than the value of the vehicle. If the light means the airbag won't work, it really wouldn't worry me too much as long as the seatbelts are working fine. If it meant the airbag might go off randomly, that might be more of a problem.

    well at least the airbags simply fail rather then spontaneously going off.

    @damnelantra™: This post caught my eye because I actually know of an incident where a Pathfinders side curtain aig bags deployed "spontaneously".


    Apparently not the same sensors, however.

    After repeated testing, it looks like the GTR's airbags work great.
