A few years ago I was driving my dad's 911 Cabriolet from my home in SoCal up to Thunderhill to watch my dad race. Well the weather north of the Grapevine was not all that friendly, torrential rain was more like it. So I was driving along at some miles an hour while the central California mud running across the highway built up on that beautiful guardsmen red paint job and all over the fuch wheels. "No problem it is a Porsche they've built rally cars out of these things," I said to myself remembering I had even driven this same car on what was basically a rally course just a few weeks prior.
Well I was just about 10 miles south of Buttonwillow at my normal fuel stop at the Shell station next to Willows Ranch where I always have lunch on these kinds of drives. While I was eating I received a call from my dad. He forgot the duct tape, or as we call it when it is destined for a car 200MPH tape, he did not need it but you never do know what you might need it for on a race car so he always likes having some around. So after lunch I ran over to the truck stop and bought a roll.
About half way between Stockton and Buttonwillow is when it happens. All of the sudden the top fabric dead center on the top tears open to the heavens like a sunroof. I immediatly pull over to the shoulder, which at this time was about a 3 inch layer of mud. Rain is pouring down like a monsoon, I break out the duct tape and mend the top as if it were a duct tape wallet.
I pulled into the paddock at Thunderhill just to see the horrified look on my father's face as he saw half of the convertible top was now made of that silver colored tape we all know so well instead of the finest German Canvas Porsche had to offer. Though in my defense it did hold together perfectly for the rest of the drive up there and the drive home and dare I say was even better insulated. #thereifixedit
Now I know who's been stealing all of the large binder clips out of my desk. It's impossible to keep those things around. Sven and I are going to have to have a talk. #thereifixedit
@skaycog: I like it. Reminds me of when my friend blew his turbo on his Volvo about 200 miles from home. We de-turboed and used a 7up can to block off the oil feed. He was able to limp it the 200 miles home, and now runs a bigger turbo and more boost... #thereifixedit
@Scandinavian Flick: We performed a similar repair to a buddy's exhaust manifold using a tennis ball can and baling wire when it let loose on a camping trip. Amazing how inspiring a couple hundred miles of nothing between you and home can be.
@High Speed Indeed: It's great to see he was able sort out this problem. With that weight off his shoulders he can now punch it without flipping out. #thereifixedit

And they're well-prepared for holding large, unbound documents together.
Nice that the clip bodies match the roof color. Integration is everything with them Yurrapeans. #thereifixedit
