So this guy is a painter and a shill for Mobil Oil?
O, what a falling off was there! I remember when Mobil sponsored Masterpiece Theatre on PBS. And now this guy. Hey, does it cost more if I use HD 10w-30w? Synthetic?
I don't want any light weight stuff, I don't want my painting to start smoking or anything, but I need to be able to start it on cold mornings.
no need to bet...2009 will look more like the days of yore...no more 14b quarters...but with ~35b in cash the real story will be where they go from acquisition standpoint. Allot 7b for ongoing buyback and still leaves room for sizable acquisition, though traditionally they stay away until a useful company is heavily depressed.
As you said Q4 tells the story though I'm sure the drooling barney frank's of the world will use the full yr headline to fire up some rhetoric. Meanwhile his ilk should be focusing on the companies that don't know what they're doing, not the ones that do.
@Who's Cartwright?: It started already their Q4 earnings were just released, down 33%. Which isn't too bad considering crude futures are down over 50%.
Just thinking out loud: I wonder how much was inventory profits (appreciation on stockpiles) due to the quick runup in crude prices last summer. Based on their 4Q, I bet this year hurts a lot more.
"And I'm with Jalop- increasing "our" drilling does almost nothing for us as a country except give oil companies (who are not on OUR side) the right to further exploit OUR natural resources."
You are welcome to take it out of the ground, ship it, refine, crack it, or turn it into something useful, all by yourself. Good luck with that.
It's worth nothing sitting in the ground. Only by turning it into money do we get any use out of it - that's what energy companies do. Turning our natural resources into wealth has the chance to make you wealthier - letting it sit in the ground doesn't do anything except make us poorer.
@don_mynack: Do we have to rip things out of the ground and turn them into something else for them to have value? Also, there are certain costs linked to burning fossil fuels, such as pollution, global warming, congestion, etc etc.
Clearly we need to redefine the meaning of "wealth".

Personally, I think that the crap artist should be used for all political paintings.
