I am so very happy that the results are nearly inconclusive. That means that there is plenty of room in the world for both of these lovelies, and many more like them.
Is the owner of one of the cars allowed to vote?? It's my miata that the EGR guys have their hands on, and I promise to keep the Jalopnik crowd updated as the build progresses and we get to track testing.
Definitely the Mi8ta, for many of the above-mentioned reasons, but mostly just for the joy of wondering how you're gonna keep the rear wheels from spinning every time you let out the clutch.
The only reason I voted Porsche is because my girlfriend won't let me have a Miata and insists they are gay regardless of sportiness.
So, it's the Porsche for me, even if it is automatic because it's a 928 without headlights. I love the 928's shape and the fact that they eliminated those ugly headlights is a WIN WIN situation for me.
@Pleco - In hoons nos fides: Pleco, here's a simple solution for you - buy a Miata "for her" and forget to give her the keys. She can't complain that you got a chick car for her and want to take it out for a spin every once in a while, can she?
A hundred bonus points if you teach her to drive stick in it. A million bonus points if you teach her to drive stick in it, and she discovers a latent love of great-handling cars and becomes a driving enthusiast herself!
The 928 looks less than vaguely sinister, and if it was still remotely streetable (ie headlights) it would be much tougher for me to decide. But, when it comes to track day toys looks don't really matter, so I've got to go with the Miata.
Light weight of a Miata mixed with the power and reliability of a LS1. Lighter weight, more power, and less likely to break down.
The Mi8ta is pretty cool, but the phrase "Gotterdammerung me, baby!" clinches it for the 928. The stereo has probably been taken out as part of the diet, but if it was still in there, I bet it would only play Wagner. Of course, the lack of a stereo doesn't preclude the blasting of scary Germanic music; this car should have a musical horn, like the General Lee's, but instead of "Dixie" it should play "Ride of the Valkyries."
Oh, by the way: The correct term for a Miata that has sacrificed itself for your sins and and taken on the heavy-horsepower burden of a larger engine is clearly "Stigmiata."

I wonder how it handles!?

But there's no denying the awesomeness of an Mi8ta.
