LS1Tech forum member, deathbyspoon, received a Triumph 10 when his father retired out of the country and decided that the cool little wagon needed a little extra oomph. His source for V8 power? A swapped 6.0-liter LS2 from a Corvette donor mated to a T56 6-speed transmission. His source for ultimate coolness? Quite possibly his American Bulldog shop dawg. <![CDATA[Crazy Croatians Build Twin-VR6 Engined Quasi-W12 AWD VW Lupo]]> A couple of insane Croatians built a twin-VR6 powered, quasi-W12 AWD Volkswagen Lupo for what we can only guess is meant for a version of Rendezvous shot in the streets of Zagreb.

This nasty beast rivals the greatness of the Z06-sourced LS7 powered Chevy Matiz we showed you earlier in the year, but the noises coming out of this once-economical ride sound like they're from another planet.

<![CDATA[Tiny Chevy Matiz Swallows A 550 HP Corvette Z06 LS7 Engine]]> Fourdin Auto Sport took a European-market Chevrolet Matiz and swapped in a Corvette Z06 LS7 to the tune of 550 HP. This just might have to be our WTF engine swap of the day.

Swapping large displacement V8s into small roadsters has always been a favorite thing to do when we're bored in the States, but the idea of swapping a 7.0 liter Corvette Z06 LS7 into a small economy car has never really caught on. The guys at Fourdin Auto Sport in Europe must have either gotten really bored or drunk one day and decided to try their hand at the swap. We don't get the super small Chevy Matiz here in the States, but if we did, we're sure a few enterprising young enthusiasts would try just the same.

Corvette-Powered Chevy Matiz At Monza:


The Chevy Matiz originally came equipped with a measly in-line 3 cylinder squirting out an embarrassing 65 horsepower; enough to net you some pretty good gas mileage we're sure. In July of 2007, the Fourdin team set out on a 13 month, 1,500 hour adventure to squeeze the 7.0 liter behemoth in the little clown car. The standard 1 liter engine could reach 60 mph at a crawling pace of just under 22 seconds, but the meaty, snarling 7.0 liter 550 horsepower V8 will get you there in an exotic crowd pleasing 3.7 seconds and will continue on to a terminal velocity of 162 mph.


Yves Fourdin, the project lead and Fourdin Auto Sport founder, had this to say:

"The realization of this project is the result of brains, passion and time. We did it without engineers and without computers, but as a close group of friends with a lot of passion for motorsport. The detail level of the car is therefore absolute. After more than 1 500 hours of work, we are proud of the result."

It just goes to show that without enough brains (and likely enough Heineken), you can turn any little econo-hatchcrap into a insane screaming beast. We want one, like yesterday.

<![CDATA[Crazy Japanese Tuners Combine 3-Series With S2000, Rocks Our World]]> Japanese chicks, E36 3-Series, cowboy hats, 9,500 RPM, 250 HP Honda S2000 engines, short skirts, race drivers. All of those things appear in this video.

After watching it, we’re inexplicably happy, but aren’t quite sure what just happened to us. Somehow, a tuned S2000 motor has found its way into a modified E36, which then found its way into the hands of a rubber-glove wearing driving god with a sexy sidekick. We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the cameraman for combining our new favorite things — upskirt and massively over-revving tachometers — into the same shots. I think we’ve found our new heroes, the good men of Best Motoring.

<![CDATA[Engine Swap of the Day: Turbine-Powered Charger!]]> Sweden, the home of sensible, safe stuff like IKEA, Volvo, and ABBA. Oh yes, and the Turbine Charger, a '72 Dodge Charger equipped with a 500 horsepower Caterpillar 553-2-1 turbine engine. We figure those long winter nights and cheap akvavit must have something to do with this project, which doesn't seem to be anywhere near roadworthy yet. <![CDATA[Engine Swap of the Day: Tatra and Audi V8s In Škoda Felicia]]> I've been making inquiries of our Czech friend BobAsh about the possibility of obtaining a Tatra V8 and transaxle from his homeland, thinking it might be fun to do a Tatra-engined VW Squareback as my personal Hell Project. He suggested I check out what some Czech madman did with a late-50s Škoda Felicia: first, a DOHC Tatra 613 V8 in the rear (and this was originally a front-engined car)... but that just wasn't insane enough. <![CDATA[Engine Swap of the Day: Fiat DOHC Into a Lada 2101]]> Say you're a young hoon in a former Iron Curtain nation chock full of old Russian cars, and you want to do a low-buck engine upgrade. What to do? Well, one easy route is to start with an old rear-wheel-drive Lada and then stuff a readily-available Fiat Twin-Cam engine in it. Since the Lada is based on the Fiat 124, it's reasonably close to a bolt-in deal (though a certain amount of bash-to-fit engineering is needed, due to the whole "based on" business).
