If that character line didn't have the silly chrome vent on the front of it, the side view of this car wouldn't be too bad.
Still bad from the front and rear, though.
Despite how unpopular this car is with people who love cars, it's a sales hit. If more 17 year old girls in these things means more Bullitt or Track Pack Mustangs, I'm ok with that.
@Mad_Science: I drove one a couple weeks ago, for comparison against my old 01 zx3, and boy is this thing a piece of shit. It had the same wheezy 2.0 engine with a decidedly shittier 5-speed gearbox, but it just didn't move like the old one did. The handling was shit, everything felt cheap inside. The brake pedal shuddered when you let the clutch out quickly. And they discontinued the hatch. Nail in the coffin.
Didn't Ford have an electric Ranger like 10 years ago? They need something really groundbreaking...like a turbine-powered Focus. Chrysler tried the whole turbine thing in the '60s and the greenies should be happy since it could run on biofuels (or tequila).
@LuciferV8: No, it will be the AMC Pacer of our time. Designed for a sophisticated powerplant then retrofitted with whatever is lying on the factory floor when the deal falls through.
I don't want it. I'm really going to miss the sound of big block V8s, turbo 4 cylinders, and the high revving engines of ferrari fame. What are we going to say in the future, "Whoa, did you hear that whizz by?" "That thing must have a rewound electric motor with upgraded stators. What a sound."
@leavethegun-takethecannoli: The loss of total musical joy from a V8 burble is a harsh thing to confront, but it will be slowly replace with other things. Like 220 ft-lbs of torque from a stand still, with no clutch or slush box ruining the tire smoking fun.
@tekamul: I am aware of the instant amount of torque available from an electric motor, but there is just something about the symphony of sound that erupts from gasoline engines. Electric motors are more of a cacophony of sound. But who knows, maybe electric motors will become the Phil Spector of automotive symphonies.
I bet the reason they picked this Lincoln was the size needed for the batteries. Whatever they do, It won't fit any cars build post 1986.... time to buy that crappy el dorado caddy coupe and hold on to it.

In order for the Ford and GM to be successful, they've got to be good at selling cars that the masses (ie, not us) want to buy.

Wait, did I say "problem"? If the current Focus melted things it would be a 1,000% improvement over whatever it does now.

Nice car, though. Too bad about the infestation of pesky canuckians under the hood; maybe a spray will get rid of 'em.

with at least one extra year of the impala... you could also get a RWD brougham edition caddy through like '91 on special order...
and they *still* make LTDs....
