I think it makes more sense then the pointless Volt. A Chevy buyer is never going to spend $40k for a car with no payback. No way will the price permium ever be justified by fuel savings. The minute you break even the batteries will need replacing.

Cadilac buyers are less likely to care. What's the payback on a $600 Stereo? A $1,500 Moon Roof? $1,000 worth of 19" Chrome Wheels? They are better able to afford what they want and I think quite a few would want one of these. It is as identifiable as a Prius, a good thing for the bling hungrey Cadilac buyer, but doesn't scream nerd.

I think Ford is missing a similar boat if they don't quickly put the Fusion Hybrid system in the MKz.

@TRLennon: So Cadillac buyers are supposed to care about gas mileage? That doesn't exactly sound intuitive to me.

@lascauxcaveman: Not gas mileage. Increased smug emissions.

If you're going to build a complex, costly power-train, selling it in a Cadillac makes the most sense. I'm Glad GM is finally doing that.
