2009 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Brings Smug to Seoul

Hyundai, the Korean company out to take over the auto industry, has announced they will be releasing a hybrid version of the 2009 Hyundai Elantra, expected to be on sale by July 2009. What's more impressive, this mild hybrid will be the first vehicle to utilize lithium polymer batteries. Supplied by LG, these batteries are said to be an improvement over existing lithium-ion batteries due to their higher energy density, lower manufacturing costs, resilience to physical damage, and ability to withstand more charge cycles before exploding losing storage capacity. More specs and full release after the jump. More »

2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring Spied Prowling Florida For Sexy Octogenarians

One of our camera-bearing readers managed to snap some photos of a pre-production 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring making its way down I-75 in Florida. Compared to the Elantra Touring concept version we saw at Chicago, this one seems to have exchanged the orange rectangular indicator on the quarter panel for a clear oval. There are also turn signals integrated into the mirrors, something not found on either the Chicago version or the Beach Cruiser edition.

2009 Hyundai Elantra Sedan To Debut At Auto China

The 2009 Hyundai Elantra sedan is the next step in Hyundai's product blitz and it's set to debut next week at Auto China. The new Elantra maintains the design language of the rest of the cars in the lineup that aren't the Genesis. That means an evolution of the front end treatment to something more resembling a late model Acura. Despite the new design, there's no word yet on whether the latest update will make it to the US, but hell, we wouldn't mind. Oh and no, we're not going to China to bring you the live reveal, so enjoy these shots because they're probably all you're getting.

Chicago Auto Show: Hyundai Reveals 2009 Sonata, Elantra Touring And i-Blue Fuel Cell Concept

Hyundai showed off a refreshed model in the 2009 Hyundai Sonata, a new model in the 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring and a far off concept in the iBlue Concept. The news from the Sonata is the addition of the first nav system and dual-zone climate control. The news for the Elantra Touring is that it does look Mazda3-ish up close with a touch of Toyota Matrix. We sat inside one and it's relatively roomy for the class with a design that would be considered friendly to most and sporty to those without a pulse. Press information and photos below. The big news with the i-Blue is, uh, that it exists?

2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring Breaks Cover, Again

In case you haven't gotten enough of the 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring that debuted in Canada, or the slightly disguised one at last year's SEMA in Vegas, we've got the full skinny here. If you don't think they're aiming at the Mazda3 five-door just put your hand in front of the front quarter of the car and see what we see. And in case you didn't get it, they mention in the press release that the car is quieter inside than a, you guessed it, Mazda3.

2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring Bows In Montreal, SEMA Version Far More Elaborate

We saw a sneak preview of sorts for the Hyundai Elantra Touring with the Beach Cruiser Concept at SEMA, and again in hastily taken amateur spy video in November. But this time the utility hauler is the real deal and everyone can have a gander. Contrary to the SEMA version, it does not have massive chrome wheels, black-out tint, and a three-toned paint job. What it does have is seating for five, a 141hp. 2.0L four cylinder, five-speed manual standard or four-speed auto optional, stability control, standard USB and aux jacks. Not the most titillating new car on the market, but it certainly has it's niche. [via TheCarBlogger

Pre-Production Hyundai Elantra Touring, Brought to You By Some Guy

Lest we assume the car-indifferent public is on the same wavelength as us mech-heads when it comes to prototypical test vehicles, remember this. One man's disguise to thwart corporate espionage is another's weird add-on from Pep Boys. The A-shirted pundit above apparently spent some time between shifts at the local OxyContin distribution center to record this response to a Viddyou clip showing the new Hyundai Elantra Touring in full obscura. Consider it further proof civilians are, you know, different than you and me. Click through to see the original clip. (Thanks to Ryan for the tip.)

Hyundai Elantra Touring Concept Predicts New Wagon

Hyundai unveiled its Elantra Touring Concept "Beach Cruiser" here at SEMA, simultaneously revealing Hyundai's upcoming Elantra five-door Touring model. The cornea-searing custom job is the product of K-Daddyz Kustomz of Bakersfield, California. Such SEMAfication shows what Hyundai's director of product planning, Wayne Killen says is the car's super aftermarket potential. Unfortunately he didn't say it in all caps and with an exclamation point at the end, so it doesn't really count.

SEMA 2007: Hyundai Reveals Elantra Touring "Beach Cruiser" Concept

SEMA's just a week away and Hyundai's just dropped the embargo sheet on their "Beach Cruiser" concept based on the upcoming five-door Elantra Touring at this year's festival of equipment and pimpage. The custom concept was customized by K-Daddyz Kustomz of Bakersfield, California with a whole load of toys and given a very unique color scheme of "Amazing Grape and Tango Orange." Who even knew oranges could dance? Full press release and official list of custom kit below the jump.

Hyundai Announces 2009 Elantra "Touring" Five Door Hatch, Releases Sketch In Traverse City

Looks like the product news today out of the Management Briefing Seminars up in Traverse City comes to us today from the Korean automaker, Hyundai. Hyundai's John Krafcik, their North 'merican Veep of Product Development announced Hyundai's all-new five-door compact will be named the "Elantra Touring." Hyundai didn't just give us a name and a sketch drawing. Nope, they've also let us know (via the press release below the jump) the Elantra Touring will be powered by the same 2.0-liter, in-line four-cylinder found in the Elantra sedan and it's expected to reach dealers in the spring of 2008 as a 2009 model year vehicle. One last thing — Hyundai's calling out their proposed competitors as the Toyota Matrix, Dodge Caliber and Mazda3. Whatever happened to Hyundai's fight to the death versus Lexus as the next 'merican top luxe brand? Maybe that's happening next week. Full high-res shot of the sketch here. More »

Adventures In Not-So-Subliminal Car Advertising: We're Thinking Of A Number, Any Two-Digit Number...

This newspaper ad for a Queens auto dealership could be the world's most obvious attempt at linking sex with buying a car. Still, considering it's an ad for the Hyundai Elantra and the Sonata — that may not be the worst idea to move some product. Hell, maybe they should try that shit out with the Dodge Magnum or anything from Mercury. Oh wait, isn't that what Jill Wagner's for? More »

SEMA Show: Hyundai's Bitchin' Rides

Hyundai's continuing its tradition of spending beaucoup bucks shoring up its standing among the import tuner crowd here at SEMA. The company rolled out several tuner show cars based on its Azera (pictured), Tiburon, Entourage, Santa Fe, Elantra, and Sonata models. K Daddyz Kustomz turned the Azera into a drop-bodied urban roller with suicide doors, Accent into a reverse-doored street cruiser and Entourage into a soccer-mom-as-pimp wagon. Helmet painter Troy Lee mimicked his signature paint schemes on a Santa Fe (with scissor doors, natch), Street Customs made the Tiburon and Sonata into typical audio-centric streeters, and David Martin and BP Racing rendered the new Elantra as a race-ready clubsport toy. No word on the cred boost Hyundai received, but one onlooker was overheard describing the cars as "bitchin'." For what that's worth. [Gallery] More »

Spy Photos: 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Hyundai's new Elantra, offspring of the 1988 Excel we once drove 75 miles with a hand over one eye (don't ask), was recently caught on film by spies. The Car Connection posted evidence of the Elantra's turn in the makeover chair today, as the car was apparently doing its best impression of a men's slipper, or attending a desert audition for HBO's "Carnivale." As TCC points out, the Elantra's new design diverges from the new Sonata's angular, aggressive stance, with softer edges and lines that flow from bow to stern, nary a right angle in sight. More »
