Wouldn't Steve Jobs and Paul Allen going in together on an investment be a little like dogs and cats together? Cupertino and Redmond don't often play on the same team.
@bozoerrebbe: Opposing powers in their positions would gladly come together to quash new ideas (in the guise of a "failed venture")in order to keep their own interests intact... and at "minor" loss to their scale of investment power.
The screen printing process at least sounds cool. If I were a betting man, I would bet you ten pesos and a donkey that the patent application was filed solely to pacify EEstor's financial backers. "Oh, you want to see results...well here is a little something we've been working on."
@highmileage: The space where batteries and ultracapacitors meet has very interesting physics. This is where the new ideas are likely to arise. I agree.
I have no doubt such a concept would have a high power density, but how in the world would you be able to make these cheaper than lead-acid batteries? Also, I doubt any battery technology in the next 50 years will come remotely close to the energy capacity of gasoline, pound for pound.
@maximum-sienna: We share your doubts, however if they can demonstrate performance that match their claims -- especially the charge time -- they won't need to match the energy density of gasoline.
Also keep in mind that even though gasoline is incredibly energy dense, IC engines only take advantage of 20-30% of that energy whereas electric systems are far more efficient.
I like V8's and rip snorting diesels as much as the next grease monkey, but I also recognize that if the battery charging issue can be solved, IC engines are no longer relevant.

One total unit weighs over 250 pounds--don't know how many you would need in a vehicle.

This won't cause gigantism will it?
