And when we say "top," we mean "every single car that managed to get onto the track."

I'm providing each car's best lap time (which should confirm once again that having a fast car isn't the most important thing for a LeMons team), as well as the number of BS Inspection penalty laps (if any), plus awards earned by the team. You racers in need of all my original, full-resolution shots of your car in action should email me and I'll get them to you. When you're done here, be sure to check out LeMons Supreme Court Justice Lieberman's coverage over on Speed:Sport:Life.

<![CDATA[The Dodgubishi Avengclipse Completes Operation Downfall]]> Chrysler and Mitsubishi have been technological partners for years, providing platforms and engines for each other even after Daimler dropped Mitsubishi a few years ago (now Chrysler hearts Nissan). The most notable models in recent memory were the Mitsubishi 3000GT/Dodge Stealth duo and the Plymouth Laser/Eagle Talon/Mitsubishi Eclipse 1G trio. By the time the venerable second generation Mitsubishi launched, Eagle and Plymouth were on the outs. Needing a sports coupe, they launched the Dodge Avenger on a lengthened 2G Eclipse platform. Apparently, one of our neighbors decided to make a commentary on this by combining the two in what is, we're told, not a completely unusual swap.

<![CDATA[Eclipse Dockable TomTom Head Unit Now Available]]> I know, I know, you were jealous of Europe and especially its Toyota Yaris with dockable TomTom GPS navigation head unit. You can breath a sigh of relief because Eclipse has taken that idea and made it available for anybody! Hooray!

The Eclipse AVN2210p MK II allows for a TomTom GPS navigation unit to dock in and out of the head unit. This is extra-convenient for regular swapping of cars and for those that like to do a little walking with a GPS unit. The unit also includes a CD player with MP3 support, Bluetooth and more. It's available from Crutchfield for $600. [Crutchfield via Uncrate]

<![CDATA[Chicago Auto Show: 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse]]> Even though they already dropped the press shots of the 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse and Spyder, the cars are making their official debut here at Chicago. Mitsubishi looked to borrow some mojo from past Eclipse models as they included previous versions in their display. The upgrades to the new version are largely cosmetic, thought they did see fit squeeze an additional two ponies out the power plant. Included in the deal are"Jet fighter grill", added traction control, new 18" wheels, dual outlet exhaust, Spyder gets standard heated seats, yada, yada, yada. Hey look, pictures.

<![CDATA[Sketches of Mitsubishi Concept-RA Revealed]]> As if there wasn't enough to look forward to at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show, Mitsubishi teases us with these sketches of thew Concept-RA, which we can only hope is indicative of the reincarnation of a new Eclipse as a vehicle worthy of the old Eclipse. The aggressive shoulders and sloping beltline are your first hints of the second generation Eclipse, while the nose makes it a very obvious nod to the new EVO.

This concept vehicle is also environmentally friendly, powered by a common-rail direct injection 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel with MIVEC variable valve timing. A whole host of engineering feats reduce emissions while still producing in excess of 200 horsepower and 310 ft-lbs of torque. All of this meets the road courtesy of an AWD system tied to the Twin Clutch SST found in the EVO and a Super All Wheel Control system that keeps the suspension working together.

The designers have kept the car on the Kate Moss side courtesy of a new body structure that utilizes an aluminum space frame and high impact-resistant recyclable plastic resin. What all this means for the future of Mitsubishi and for the return to the successful dynamics of the past is uncertain. But we shall dare to dream. Press release below the jump.

Mitsubishi Motors new "MITSUBISHI Concept" to receive global premiere at 2008 Detroit Motor Show

November 27, 2007 — Tokyo —
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) and Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. (MMNA, based in Cypress California) will premiere MITSUBISHI Concept to the world at the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS or the Detroit Motor Show). MITSUBISHI Concept fuses a passion for dynamic, exciting driving with a heightened sensitivity for the environment thanks to clean, efficient high performance diesel power. The 2008 NAIAS runs from January 13 to 27 at the Cobo Center in Detroit and opens to the general public on January 19.

MITSUBISHI Concept shows that thrilling performance and environmental responsibility need not be mutually exclusive concepts. This coupe concept features the S-AWC vehicle dynamics control system driveline and the Twin Clutch SST automated manual transmission used in Lancer Evolution*1, and is powered by a new high-output, high-efficiency clean diesel engine.

*1: Lancer Evolution X in Japan

The MITSUBISHI Concept S-AWC driveline adds Active Steering and Active Suspension control to the ACD*2, AYC*3, Sport ABS*4 and ASC*5 component systems that comprise the system used on Lancer Evolution. S-AWC integrally manages all of these systems to realize advanced levels of control over drive torque and braking, thereby upgrading traction, cornering and vehicle stability. All this adds up to intuitive, on-demand vehicle behavior that faithfully reflects driver intent under all driving conditions, from everyday use to emergency avoidance situations.

MITSUBISHI Concept is powered by a new high-efficiency, low-emissions 2.2-liter 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve turbodiesel engine with MIVEC*6 continuously variable valve lift and timing control. With piezoelectric injector common-rail direct fuel injection that allows a lower compression ratio and with a VD (Variable Diffuser)/VG (Variable Geometry) turbocharger, the clean diesel unit delivers a maximum output of 150 kW (204 PS) and maximum torque of 420 Nm (42.8 kg-m). For compliance with U.S. emissions standards (Tier 2 Bin 5 emission regulations), the engine relies on a new catalytic converter system that brings together diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), NOx trap catalyst (NTC) and diesel particulate filter (DPF) technologies. The new diesel engine will deliver exciting driving manners with a high degree of fuel efficiency.

For improved crashworthiness and to reduce vehicle weight MITSUBISHI Concept features a new body structure using an aluminum space frame made from extruded aluminum sections and die-cast aluminum members, as well as engine hood, fenders and other outer panels made from high impact-resistance and easily recyclable plastic resin.

<![CDATA[2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse SE: But Will It Block Out the Sun?]]> Will a large airfoil wake up interest in Mitsubishi's Eclipse? Perhaps not as much as would an AWD Evo package producing upward of 400 hp. But that's not in the cards. Not quite in its place is Mitsu's Eclipse SE for 2008. Available in both four- and six-cylinder models the SE package includes a 650-watt Rockford Fosgate sound system, two-tone leather seating and a power moonroof. That's in addition to the wing and special body striping. The V6 SE gets electronic stability control. At a price of $3,800 over the cost of a GS and $5,100 over the GT model, the SE isn't for Eclipse purists. Is that an oxymoron? [via Kicking Tires]

<![CDATA[Cylons Forge Alliance with Decepticons, Stage Mitsubishi Takeover]]> It only makes sense that Cylons would join forces with the evil Decepticons, and imbed cybernetic technology into a 2nd Gen DSM Eclipse. After surmising '80s Starions Battlecar Galacaticas had something to do the awesome turbo power of Colonial Vipers, the nefarious robots likely thought the Eclipse good competition for any human piloted road-going Colonial fighters. Make sure to hit the sound on the video to enjoy great benefit. [Battlestar Galactica via Wikipedia ]

<![CDATA[MOD Squad Hits Triple Diamonds in Third Year]]> Having been to the first annual Mitsubishi Owners Day three years ago, the sheer number of Lancer Evolutions tearing up the roads today seems almost impossible. So many EVOS appeared that the cars overflowed onto the nearby streets of MMUSA HQ. While there was some temporary grumbling that Prototype X showed up instead of the production version, there were plenty of 3000GTs, Starions, and Eclipses to keep everyone happily distracted. Stay tuned for some mini-galleries focusing in on some of the historic rides on shipped over from the museum in Japan on display at MOD. The good news is you've got another year to get that Mitsubishi 500 ready to roll.

<![CDATA[No Starion From Mitsubishi: Eclipse Spyder, Concept-CT Instead]]>

No doubt, Bumbeck's weeping in his cranberry juice right now, as his pleas to Mitsubishi to bring back the beloved Mitsu variant of the StarQuest twins have fallen on deaf ears. However, they did introduce what they refer to as an "attainable exotic" in the form of the Eclipse Spyder. Because the Solstice is obviously an unattainable exotic.

mitsu_detroit_4.jpg

Also unveiled was the Concept-CT, which "introduces an innovative hybrid powertrain packaged in an entirely new type of vehicle architecture. " Really? Holy crap man, this innovation's just gotta stop! A four-door small car with a hatchback and a hybrid powertrain? Entirely new! It's like a Prius and an Insight all rolled into one, with a Diamond Star logo!

<![CDATA[Mitsubishi to Unveil 2007 Eclipse Spyder, New MIEV Concept in Detroit]]>

Mitsubishi released advance sketches today of its 2007 Eclipse and a new, small electric-car concept that it will reveal at the Detroit auto show in January. The Spyderized version of the Eclipse coupe, redesigned for 2005 appears to resolve some of the coupe's design tension — with a top-down look that's more satisfying than the hardtop (at least from the side, and with those obligatory low-low profile meats). Both GS and GT trim lines will be offered, each with a 650-watt Rockford Fosgate Premium Audio system. The company also notes the cabrio will have "a few other surprise features usually reserved for high-priced convertibles and cabriolets." How many guesses?

The Concept CT is a hybrid-drive, B-segment car designed at the company's Cypress, Calif. design center. It sports the same In-wheel Motor Electronic Vehicle (MIEV) technology, introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show in the form of a Lancer Evo. The company says the CT "provides a glimpse into the future of next-generation hybrid powertrain vehicles."

<![CDATA[Mitsubishi Ralliart Eclipse Unveiled]]>

It's part Eclipse, part Evo and better looking than either of those stock models. It's Mitsubishi's latest concept tuned to within an inch of its life by in-house speed shop Ralliart. The R boys took the Evo VIII's 2.0-liter turbocharged 4G63 engine (upclocked to ~400hp) and AWD system, and slapped them both into an '06 Eclipse, where they probably should have been in the first place. On the outside 20" wheels under tasteful body flares give it a sumo stance that accentuates the new Eclipse's best lines. It's the best Ralliart concept we've seen so far, if we'd be so bold.

<![CDATA[Mitsubishi to Show Ralliart Eclipse at SEMA]]>

Mitsubishi will again use the occasion of SEMA to show off several concept cars branded by its in-house speed shop, Ralliart. The showcase vehicle will be a radically designed Eclipse, which it will unveil later today. The company is anxious to make sure SEMA attendees, and the tuner crowd in general, aren't taking the company's business difficulties of late as a sign of weakness. The highly top-secret Ralliart Eclipse is the result of work by the company's Cypress, California design team.
