    Hmmm. The part of his brain that is still coherent might want to look into declaring itself a sovereign nation within his sovereign nation and either declare war or just secede.

    Does this guy not understand that unless you he is a diplomat on business, he's still subject to the laws of the state? I live in Michigan, but that doesn't make me exempt from Pennsylvania laws if I break them while there.


    It might get him an insanity plea though. Legal insanity is defined as not having comprehension of whether what you have done is wrong. If he can convince a jury that he truly believes that he was justified in driving drunk, as that is his "country"'s custom, he might just get a few years in a mental institution, instead of a $500 fine and 90 day license suspension. If he thinks that is the better option, I'd agree that he's insane.

    When my friend was working for the parks department, he was running a campground in southeastern BC. For days on end, there would be nobody in the campground, but he still had to sit in his little hut and wait, in case someone did show up.


    He got bored, and started making a flag. When I showed up, he had just finished, and was in the process of hoisting it above his hut. He told me he was declaring independence, and the campground was his new nation, much like the Vatican. The flag had a lovely hand-drawn coat of arms, with the words, "People's Democratic Republic of Jason's Fucking Campground" surrounding it.


    Nobody ever noticed it, and it lasted for several weeks, until we had a heavy rainstorm, which resulted in his flag being turned back into the pillowcase from whence it came.


    Possibly the only instance in history of an entire nation being wiped out by rain. Unless you believe that crap about some guy named Noah building a Zodiac for a bunch of critters.

    When I first moved into my house I put a California state flag up. My neighbors asked me about it and I told them I was the Ambassador to Michigan from the California Republic and my house was the embassy.

    Working at a small weekly paper years ago, a batty old woman, last name Rupp, came in and took out a legal ad that declared her property "The Principality of Ruppmania." She said it was to avoid paying taxes. We ran the ad and never heard back.

    We had some crazy out-of-towner hippies try and pull this in my town not to long ago, they had some crazy separatist paperwork that laid out a fairly crazy and elaborate case for what they were claiming.


    Their court date to fight the DUI/Pot Possesion charges was a total circus it was covered by all the local media as a humor piece.


    I expect they are still in jail.
