So you are saying the cabin is big? I am 6'3", the CTS-V is too tiny for me, the M6 and new M3 heve more room for me, also I sat in the Cl65 Amg and I had a ton of room, more than the BMW's. I like the price of the CTS-V but it isn't man sized. #2010mercedese63amg
After reading both this and the current C&D test on the E63, and currently owning a 124 E-class which followed a 126 4.2L SEL, I can say I have no alternative but to shop a CTS-V in the future.
It'll be affordable about a decade sooner. Even then, I'm going to have to revise my used car fund to be more than $10K (not adjusted for inflation, just haul-assisity). #2010mercedese63amg
Dunno - it's awesome and definitely an improvement over the previous generation E-Class, which already was a quite brilliant car.
But the other day I got to drive a Jaguar XF. Okay, it was just the 270hp 3l diesel, and not the XFR that would compete with this baby. But the XF blends its futuristic modernism so well with this peculiar sense of old-fashioned Jaguary Britishness (all that leather! All that wood!), that I'd still go for one of 'em cats rather than this staple in the world of going fast in luxury. If I could just afford it...
And it wouldn't even have to be the XFR (I'm lying - it would), the diesel would suffice. Cruising down the autobahn with about 240km/h is already pretty decent. And isn't everything British infinitely more jalop than an E-Class? #2010mercedese63amg
@RentalCarGuy: Don't forget that the XFR has horrible, horrible brake overheating issues. It couldn't do five laps of Monticello safely. #2010mercedese63amg
@Wes Siler: Yeah, I know - they didn't want you (it was you, wasn't it?) to race Maximum Bob in it... But even though: A British car with a sizely V8 under the bonnet that doesn't stop if you want it to? Sounds like the stuff Jalopnik legends are made from to me - PCH cars fresh from the factory! Yay! #2010mercedese63amg
@Pew Pew BOOM: screw veyron that is for the birds... pelicans at least... but im down for some 100,000 mph driving... and easy you say? lets see those cops catch me now! #2010mercedese63amg
@KeyserSoze: I'm fully prepared to be shunned for this sentiment, but I don't think a manual is appropriate for an AMG product. They aren't about maximum driver involvement, but the combination of maximum luxury and capability. #2010mercedese63amg
Why the preoccupation with how it does on the track? Is that this car's purpose? James May did an article a while back about how obsession with 'Ring times have made cars fundamentally less enjoyable on the road, and he's right on target. Yup, the CTS-V will probably beat this thing on the track, but is that really what a buyer will be thinking about when considering this car? #2010mercedese63amg
It's a sad to see that the BMW M5 is no longer the benchmark from which all sports sedans are judged. Not even a hint of a mention in this article! #2010mercedese63amg
@zeeboid: addationally this new format kind of sucks. Nothing says "Don't come to our site to read stuff" quite as well as having to click on 12 diffrent places to read the full article, or having to print the thing out twelve times to read it on the John #2010mercedese63amg

So I bought a cheap house, how else was I supposed to be able to afford proper toys?
Maybe when they get rusty although by then I'll probably be able to find a dented up CTS-V. #2010mercedese63amg
