So please confirm: it was the Durango's PLATFORM that was cancelled in that big announcement a week or so ago, and the Durango itself will live on as a boon companion to the Grand Cherokee on the Jeep's platform?
Now that I think about it, why did Chrysler need TWO mid-size SUV platforms to begin with? (Yeah, I know the Jeep was uni-body and the Durango was full frame, but, really, WTF?)
...and, yeah, the first generation Durango was really attractive and very popular and got high marks from those who owned them, while the second generation just kinda looked...awkward. Like the semi-retarded kid in gym class. Yeah, that bad...
Man you guys are a bunch of haters lol! That car is better looking then the Tahoe... It's just easy to kick someone when their down. That's a good looking car and a step ahead of the last Durango...
Like the side profile of the new Charger! That thing looks like the old charger's profile. It has the Coke bottle shape of the 68, 69, and 70 chargers!!
Give Chrysler a break they're working it out! For a company with it's back to the wall they do have some good stuff in the pipe line.
Maybe I just have a soft-spot for Jeeps, but that new Grand Cherokee isn't looking too bad to me. 19% better fuel economy would put it at about 26 MPG, which ain't too shabby for a full size ute. I like the shorter nose, though it does end up looking a little like a Ford Edge (not a bad thing, but not very Jeep-like).
I'll probably just replace my XJ with a WK, since a pretty decent one now goes for about $10k.
Why does that picture say "Grand Cherokee Fullsize SUV?" Fullsize? It's a midsize, and a small one, at that.
So are they going to basically morph the Grand Cherokee into the Commander, or what? Unless the redesign the Liberty into something other than the box the XJ came in, I smell another Chrysler fail.

Well, on the bright side, it's not nearly as eye-searingly ugly as the old model. In fact, I dare say this one's better looking than a Sequoia.
I still don't give a shit, though. Why does Dodge even bother? Get a sedan smaller than the Charger that's not a piece of shit, then we might lend you more money.
The 1st gen Durango (and the Dakota it was based on) were awesome not-quite-full-size trucks with V8 power and good looks.
Of course your market research told you the one thing people would change about the car is "more room". That means you need to market a fullsize option as well, not bloat your smaller models.
It looks like it will be a derivative of the Grand Cherokee? I'm just guessing here, but they did close down the Delaware Assembly Plant producing the Durango and Aspen, so the only other Asssembly plant that can produce this thing is the Detroit Plant currently making the GC and the hapless Commander.
I figured out what they're doing. They're trying to conserve cash, unlike GM. So they're economizing on the PR budget by only using one photo for the whole line.
This recovery is going to be made out of pure win, and good ol' 'Murikan know how!
@Jo Schmo, Pauljones evil and opposite twin: Seriously? 2005+ Grand Cherokees are so much better than the earlier generations. And the Durango was just a bloated POS from the getgo. A fine vehicle for towing a few jet skiis, but not much else.

I usually like higher beltlines, but Chrysler has really been going overboard with the gun-slit windows lately.

It's kinda sad to see the GC morph from an XJ-with-Leather into yet another fullsize SUV designed to make a truck act like a minivan.
Someone please tell me there's a slide highlighting the new engine options for the Wrangler:
Diesel, V6 (with torque this time), and the 4.7L V8 for the Unlimited.
