    Sorry, but since 9/11 we've all been subjected to ever-increasing suspensions of civil liberty. "Surrender all to the all-knowing authority figure", and we as a population accept it all without protest...


    Yet what happens in a police-state when the persons with the badges (i.e. the police) are the criminals...?


    The Libertarian in me wants the book thrown at this m-f'ing cop BIG time, as he brings the very concept of a badge into question, and by his actions threatens the concept of civil observance of a non-military police force.

    OK. More backstory. This guy Bruce Anthony Wrzosek, aged 22 years, lives in Parkville, Maryland. This incident occurred while he was out of uniform, and off-duty. Maryland State Troopers are issued cruisers which they get to take home with them. He was using his for personal ad lib activities, in this case getting a gut-bomb after heavy drinking. He was intoxicated by admission when apprehended, and registered over the limit by examination on the scene when the BPD took him into custody. He also has had another arrest for drunkenness in April of this year by the BPD, after which, according to news reports, some State Troopers started harrassing BPD officers with minor traffic violation citations etc. So they were gunning for him when he pulled into the Taco Bell drunk in his cruiser. It is uncertain why he kidnapped the bystander at this time. Regarding his past history, it is reported that Maryland prefers NOT to hire individuals with previous police experience, and even if they do, they are still required to go through the academy anyway. Mr. Wrzosek was still in his 2 year probationary period when arrested 12/23/2008 @ 02:30. Since this was his second alcohol related arrest in this period, he was terminated with no option of hearing.


    So CafeRacer1200 appears to be correct. Just a young foolish inexperienced douche, intoxicated with his police power, and an alcohol problem. Not good cop material. Good call, CR.

    What's amazing he was fired right away. Here in Vancouver a Cop recently drove drunk, hit and killed a guy, then ran from the scene. Months earlier this same cop was involved in the murder of an innocent guy at the airport whom he tazered and stomped on, all caught on video. This guy is still not fired, and I don't know if there's even charges against him.


    To add more some recent investigation revealed that there have been tons of BC cops caught drinking and driving and they continue to have their jobs. Where the hell do I live?

    Wait for the backstory. I wouldn't be surprised if this poor guy is a recently discharged military police veteran, home from the Iraq War, and having personal issues. Of course he could just be a douche, but that's what it feels like to me, given the rage documented in the story.

    I think it's high time we outlawed Tacos, Burritos and the whole shebang.

    @Benson2175: Hell, in Charlottesville a cop's dash cam caught him hitting a guy in a crosswalk in a motorized wheelchair. They lost no time in issuing the disabled guy a ticket--while he was at the hospital--but retracted it later I believe--and issued fishy statements until the dash cam video came out. Even so, they refused to say what if anything happened to this public servant; and they spent a fortune "making crosswalks safer"--I think the guy is finally going to sue and godspeed to him.
