Today she's gonna take her car into the shop & the conversation is gonna go something like this:

MECHANIC: "I've never seen a brake pedal bend like that - how'd that happen?"
    LADY: "Adrenaline."
MECHANIC: "Also, all your window seals are blown out."
LADY "People on the bridge told me I screamed rather loudly."
MECHANIC: "Well, there's also what appear to be permanent divots in your steering wheel, and... Oops, I think you're gonna need a new front seat, too."

Well too bad she wasn't trained in the art of bridge jumping you know? Could be useful.

I am an authorized instructor btw. I usually do the Ambassador bridge from Detroit into Windsor. So please feel free to contact me. The first lesson is free!

I find it incredible that those tires were able to keep the car stationary at that angle.

@bugattatra: True dat. 1g is damned impressive for anything that isn't a performance tire on a performance car, and if that 45 degree measure is accurate, that's precisely what she was getting.

@smalleyxb122: Actually, you need to be at 90deg to have 1g.

45deg ends up being (I don't remember for sure) 1g/sqroot(2)=.7g.

Is that right? I didn't draw out the fbd.

@stinkycatfish: At an angle of 45 from the horizontal (or vertical) you have an equal amount of gravitational force projected into the plane of the road as you do projected along the plane of the road. Therefore, to remain stationary, the tires need a static coefficient of friction of 1 (one) exactly. Although that may be different in reality because her center of gravity is not at the point of contact for the tires.

How she managed to get up there is easy. She is a woman and everybody knows female drivers are inattentive and illogical. Apparently, the bridge was engineered by a male. She found the flaw just as her sex is wont to do.

I say this in jest. In reality, she is probably just old with poor eyesight and didn't know what to do after she missed the flashing lights and signs.
