And won't you look at that! A Merkur! How quaint but oh so very interesting. Gotta say it's not the prettiest car, but wow, it's cool to see a car that dares to look different.

Wow, Murilee, you must do a huge feature on the car in 2019. If Nostradamus isn't proven right by then, that is.

Wow, I was surprised to see those early Fords at the top. The Ford Model T got me started in cars. But there was other early influences.

I still cannot believe how well Chrysler pulled off the long, low, swept look from the late-50's through the early-70's.

In fact, I pass, daily, now that I am back to a-workin', a place which has a '68 300 convertible for sale in addition to an '81 Imperial with a parts car.

I've gotta find a new way home.... This job doesn't come close to paying for good food, much less a hobby of any sort.

Perhaps we need to do a feature on commenters rides? Perhaps "Whip of the week?"

Just a thought. Or just call it "Down in the Comments"

Is it just me, or were the Japanese joints BOORRRING! Baring the converts and Z's everything else was totally forgettable, if not forgotten. Almost any of the American/European iron would be preferable. I see most of the Japs every week here in NYC, abet in various states of preforation. Here's one of Europe's 'finest' that I bet you haven't seen on the Isle, but I peeped it here on the streets of NYC, the BK to be exact. So . . what is it, hmmm?

What, no Coupe Z's?.... O.K., I admit they're kind of rare (145 left as of last count), but it looks like Alameda has one of everything! Great Job, Murilee, and thanks for making the weekends fun again!

This could read as a list of cars-to-drive-before-I-die. Luckily, I worked as a lot lizard at an auto auction for a few years back in the 90's, so I got to cross quite a few of these off of my to-do list. The Datsuns always seemed to follow me home, though.

What, with all the Datsuns being represented here, a datsungasm is almost certain.

Either Fairlady, please. Seriously, just one. Y'all can have all the other stuff.
The '78 Z is a looker, too, but that particular one is a rusty monster that clearly has not lived on Alameda its whole life.

I can't believe it, but there are a few of these cars I'd still like to own before I die.

A mid-80's Cressida, a Starion turbo, a dual-shift-lever Colt, and an early-80's (height of the Datsun Z-car malaise) 280ZX. 1982 would be just fine.

I cannot explain why, and I have not been partaking in any drugs, prescribed or otherwise.

I'd kinda like to have a '70-'72 Datsun 510 wagon, just because I remember the one we had while I was a kid. I'm pretty certain that, today, I'd find it almost laughable.

@can't find no job, that's why I ain't go no...: Get an 1982 280ZX Turbo with T-Tops. It doesn't get more 80's than that.

By the way, if you want it to handle, brace the hell out of that chassis. It has more slop than a bowlful of gravy.

I would do dirty, insane, and very illegal things for a vintage FJ in good shape. Hmm, I may have inadvertently found out what my project car /hell/, (not so much hell), could be.

I found a second-gen Accord yesterday, riding up to Manchester, helping my neighbors move to a new apartment. It seemed alive and well, bombing down 101 in Amherst/Milford, on the bypass.

Neat little car, but not quite as cool as the first-gen I found here.

@FP - missing Pete and the SHOwagon: Or maybe it was a late first-gen sedan; anyway, early Accord woo. A third-gen hatchback appeared not long after; hadn't seen one of those in a while either... and then a B12 Sentra...

@bdon: They were good, solid cars; the sort of cars you saw so many of back in the day (and for good reason) that you look twice when you see one on DOTS... but they really are almost gone. Damn shame.
