F1 with less money (say a twentieth of current numbers) would be twenty times more fun.
Bring back Osella, Minardi, Coloni, AGV, Ligier, Tyrrell and so on, and let them race. And best of all, no money means that drivers will once again be free to speak like humans.
So, did I miss the post announcing that Andrew had been moved up the Masthead to sit with the sexy Ms. Martin, and that the other two interns had been taken out back and shot?
F1 is dying on its arse, the Bernie & Max show with all the new rules have killed the sport. There's the odd good race, but not a patch on the good old days.
Honda has been parrallel to Toyota & Nissan recently in financial strength & was always a japanese pioneer in performance along with mitsubishi & subaru... but, to see them cutting costs like crazy lately, & selling their F1 division, along with the $7.9 billion rumoured for development of "green sport cars" (along with other "green" projects); which makes a person think:
"Did Honda, within a year or 2, stupidly adopt Detroit's not-so-Big 3's catastrophic finance systems in an act of blind & idiotic jeleousy?!"
I hope not.. even though I like Japanese cars, especially Toyota... Honda had a special part in my heart, my dad owned a 1993 Civic & I cried the day it was sold 2 years later... I hope the best for the company, Seriosly!
@layabout: Button has always been one of my favorite drivers. Its been sad to watch him struggle these last couple of years with an uncompetitive ride.
Corvette_Thunder_Wheres my trophy for participating in Jalopnik? was starred
Corvette_Thunder_Wheres my trophy for participating in Jalopnik? was unstarred
@monsterajr: Button's a damn good driver with more talent & home crowd support than Hamilton could dream of. He screwed up by falling out with Frank Williams, back when Willians were still competative. I'm pretty sure Brawn will have teams lining up to offer him a job.
@layabout: Who would be lining up to off Ross Brawn a job? He doesn't want to go back to Ferrari, McLaren won't want him nor will Williams, BMW, or Renault. Probably not Toyota. So, that leaves Red Bull, and I can't see that happening.
Oh...and Jenson's done. Unless there's a buyer soon, his F1 career is over.
@chucky2jimmy: Red Bull & Force India have the money to get Brawn,& he's the kind of guy that wants to build one last good car. As for Button he just needs a competitive car.
@OG_: Yeah Davidson's getting better with experience.
@layabout: I'd hate to mention this but despite his quickness, Jenson Button is the most overrated driver in Formula One today (and yesterday, and the year before that).
He wasted any opportunities with other teams that were out there when he (eventually) broke his contract with Frank Williams to go to the Honda team. No other team will touch him (unless he's paying for his ride, hello... Toro Rosso), and the arrival of Lewis Hamilton has virtually removed him from the British Press.
Especially since Lewis is a better driver than Jenson, and oh... something about Lewis winning the World Championship.
Jenson had his opportunity to shine but chose the glamorous life. It's too bad that he won't be remembered for anything besides that.
And before anyone else mentions it... he INHERITED his win at Hungary after Fernando and Michael crashed out.
@mindbender9: Yeah just ignore the facts,Button left Williams because he fell out with the team boss due to a proposed move to Mclaren & it was Frank Williams that refused to let Button go to Mclaren,by then the relationship was beyond repair so Button just wanted out & even at his own expense. He is a far better driver than Hamilton will ever be,Hamilton had the best car last season, yet he still felt the need to cheat, As for the press, this may be a shock to you,but they follow whoever is doing well. Which over the last decade or so that has been pretty much decided by the best car.
It will be Hamilton that's remembered for taking the glamorous life when he chose to shit on the country from which his father claimed benefits from tax payers money to move to Switzerland to avoid paying tax.
@mindbender9: Lewis sucks, he had a reliable and quick car, if it wasn´t for stupid faults from team Ferrari, he would have ended up at least 20 point behind Massa.
@layabout: Ha ha. You guys are all delirious if you think that Lewis Hamilton isn't one of the top drivers in F1.
You are even more insane if you think Jenson can top Lewis. Lewis threw the best driver in F1 (in my opinion), Alonso, for a loop last year. He took the drivers' championship this year, Jenson wasn't even close.
If Hakkinen feels that Hamilton will be the dominant champion in F1 for years to come, what do YOU know?
Talk is cheap. Results matter. So how is Jenson better again?
And I felt that the Massa-Hamilton fight this year was the most exciting I've ever seen. It's too bad Ferrari let Massa down.
@mindbender9: You're still not getting it are you,if you switched Hamilton & Buttons cars they'd switch positions. Hamilton isn't even in the top five drivers, Massa,Raikkonen,Alonso,Vettel,Kubica & Button would finish ahead of Hamilton in equal cars. Hamilton is an arrogant spoiled brat that cheats & when he gets caught out he stamps his feet. Read this court transcript from his pathetic appeal to overturn the penalty he had to pay for cheating in Belgium....
""I have been a racing driver since I was eight years old and I know pretty much every single manoeuvre in the book, and that's why I'm the best at my job.
"We are talking about a skilled driver under intense pressure making a split-second decision which no-one, not unless they are in Formula One, can comprehend."
Tozzi told Hamilton to "stop personalising" the issue as he was under instruction from Ferrari, who "know as much about Formula One as you do".
Hamilton responded: "With respect, I doubt it."
Also you don't think Hakkinen's opinion may be a little bias towards the team he still does PR work for?
@mindbender9: For the 4th time you have still missed the point,Hamilton won because he had the best car,had the Ferrari been more reliable, Massa would have won the title with 3 or 4 races left. Hamilton's success is down to the car & just the car. Clearly you have some kind of problem with Button & your opinion seems that of a Mclaren fanboy.
Oh,& it was well documented about the Button/Mclaren link at the time. But then you seem to base you opinion on what F1 magazine tells you, ffs.
@layabout: gee, Layabout. Looks like I'm not the only one who sees reality for what it is.
Hamilton beat the rest of the field and earned the championship this year as a result. It doesn't matter if he had another car or not, because it didn't happen that way.
Am I really the one missing your so-called point? Why do you have to INSIST that things would be different if Lewis were in a Honda this year? We all know that he'd be at mid-pack at best, but Lewis is McLaren and that's that. So come back to reality with us. It's really a nice place.... since HAMILTON WON!
And it was nice that Honda's CEO apologized to Jenson for selling the team. I thought so.
Oh... and give me some links about the Button/McLaren connection. Any links. Please. If there are any, post them here. I need to learn how this Formula One thing works.....
And since you have a bug up your rear about Hamilton, I'd like to remind you that HAMILTON WON! YAY!
@mindbender9: Wow you really are a prick,& just a brief look around other forums puts you well & truely in the minority. You poor pathetic little fanboy. Enjoy living in your parents basement with your Mclaren & Hamilton posters. Once again he won due to his car,oh & the small fact that Glock let him pass by to take 5th. Truth hurt does it little fella.
@mindbender9: How shocking, you have no friends,i wonder why [jalopnik.com] That makes your last 5 comments all at me, now thats more than a bit creepy.
@layabout: Oh, I'm really hurt. You showed me! I'll never type again.
But really, I'm just calling it as I see it. I was hoping that Alonso would do better this year, but he did manage to pull off two wins in the Renault. To me, he's still the best driver in F1 today.
Hm... it must be nice thinking that you could be an authority of anything. Tell me, what color is the sky in your world?
@mindbender9: Alonso being the best driver is the most sense you've made so far, happy to agree on that. The way you bang on about Hamilton is a little sad,it doesn't bother me that he won, after all like me he's English so happy a Brit won. I just don't like the manner in which he won. I felt Massa was far more deserving & was let down by an unreliable car,but the guy conducted himself very well.
We'll just have to agree to disagree about Button, but credit where it's due,he bought himself out of his Williams contract to follow a dream promised by Honda, sadly it didn't work out for either. I still maintain (along with F1 experts comments i've read) that Button would be a serious challenger in a top car. Now can we drop this?
I wonder what effect that will have on the next-gen NSX; it is supposed to be an impromptu technological halo car, including technology from F1. If they abandon F1, will the similarly abandon the few performance cars they have and become the next Toyota?
I can't say that I'm surprised. The Hondas have been 2 seconds slower than almost all the other cars in the field. Their only contribution to F1 this year has been the Dumbo ear front spoilers.

But then again, I don't know Jenson or Ron Dennis personally, so who knows?
But according to F1 Racing magazine (I'm a subscriber) who used to kiss Jenson's rear, it was always Williams vs. Honda.
Where did you hear about McLaren? Can you state your references please?
