2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon Pictures, Details Leaked?

We've seen the 2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon but that was masked up with black camo as it was being tested on the road . Now we've got some un-camoed pictures of the newest member to the 2010 CTS family as it's apparently being tested online for opinions. The CTS family already includes the sedan and the 2010 CTS Coupe, and with this new Wagon der Sport, it'll be a threesome. Thanks to tipster Wally, this screen capture from what's purportedly a Harris Poll opinion survey (Cadillac PR would neither confirm nor deny the veracity) not only shows us exactly what the wagon will look like, but what specifications we can expect under the "Art & Science" skin. We'll take ours with the 304 HP 3.6-liter direct-injection V6 connected to the 6-speed automatic, but apparently a 260 HP 3.0-liter V6 and all-wheel-drive will also be available. Evidently, pricing will be in the $37,500 to $42,500 range. For that coin, you'll reportedly get equipment like full-time traction control, electronic stability control, side curtain airbags, and UltraView double-size sunroof, 8-speaker Bose stereo, available 5.1 Surround Sound with hard drive music storage and live radio pause/re-play, available pop-up touch-screen navigation system, and of course OnStar. All sound familiar to you? That's because it's the same options list on the CTS. More info and Cadillac CTS Wagon spy photos below the jump.

2010 Maserati Quattroporte Spied In Italy, Testing California Motor?

With forthcoming competition in the form of the Porsche Panamera and the Aston Martin Rapide, Maserati has apparently decided it's time for the Quattroporte to get its game face on. Behind the saggy cladding on this tester is said to be a new face with a grille similar to that found on the Gran Turismo coupe. But this won't be just a shot of botox for vanity's sake. The enhanced mouth will likely feed a new direct-injection engine. More »

One Man's Quest To Get Oversight For Insurance Company Repair Programs

We like to think our skills as automotive wonks are fairly well-honed, but Mr. Eversman at AutoMuse makes us and our little Rules Of The Road feature look amateurish. If you'll remember, he was the one who brought the Allstate repair case to our attention. Now he's taking aim at the "direct repair" or "concierge" services offered by the major insurance companies, which is another insurance program aimed at hurting consumers. More »

Garmin, MSN Eliminate Unnecessary Address Entry on GPS Units

Garmin is taking steps in the right direction with a new service it recently announced. Everyone who has used a GPS navigation knows that entering addresses is pretty painstaking, so this new service—a collaboration between Garmin and MSN Direct—tries to eliminate that requirement altogether. It seems the service is pretty simple: beaming directions from a computer using Microsoft Live Search Maps directly to a compatible Garmin GPS unit. But the method they used to get to that point is an interesting one. More »

Adventures in Turbocharging

We're not sure if this guy is a comedic genius, or has more than a few intake manifold bolts coming loose. The poster surmises that since turbochargers are at best 80% efficient, channeling engine exhaust directly back into the engine would be good for moar power. If anyone has a v-band clamp that will bolt an exhaust header directly up to a Corvette cross fire injection intake please let him know. He also seems concerned about the correct pinion angle given all that potential horsepower. [Direct Exhaust Injection via Nebraska GM Modern Muscle]

500-Horse Camaro? The General's Next Small Block V8 to Get Direct-Injection

According to Ward's Auto, an experimental 6.2-liter, direct-injection V8 producing upward of 500 hp could be factored into the next Chevrolet Camaro equation. The engine would coincide with the Gen V version of the small-block V8, based on GM's existing all-aluminum Gen IV (L92), which powers the Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali and Hummer H2. According to Wards, the prototype powerplant resides in the engine bay of an Escalade being tested at GM's proving grounds. One GM engineer says it's developing "well north" of 450 horsepower, a 10 percent increase in low-end torque and three percent to six percent better fuel economy. That from the new injection system, which features eight high-pressure injectors that squirt fuel directly into the side of the combustion chamber at 2,250 pounds per square inch. GM Announces New, Direct-Injection V6 Coming in 2008

Engine geeks, pay attention. GM Powertrain's working up a new, 3.6-liter gasoline direct-injection engine with variable valve timing, just in time for the 2008 model year — though its first application in a car won't likely appear until 2009. It'll be GM's second DI engine in the US, after the new, turbocharged 2.0-liter four (pictured) to be used in the Pontiac Solstice GXP and Saturn Sky Red Line. GM says the new engine, which will be used internationally, will offer a 15% power bump over its current crop of V6s, which vary in horsepower from 240 to 267, as well as improve fuel efficiency. Of course, the new mill will arrive more than three years after Toyota's 3.5-liter DI engine, and six years past GM's original deadline for a major launch of DI engines (but who's counting). Could it be the new powerplant uses technologies borrowed from Isuzu, which was the first to the US market with a 3.5-liter direct-injection six, which showed up in the failed ...wait for it... Isuzu Axiom (respect!). More »

Engine geeks, hold on to your pocket protectors. Mercedes announced a new CLS model fitted with a stratified-charge, direct-injection V6 that produces 292 hp and 269 lbs.-ft of torque, while getting a combined US-converted mileage figure of around 25 mpg. Pretty sneaky, Hans. More »
