If you're going to make something that performs like a dog, is likely to burst into flames, electrocute its occupants, or crush everyone inside into oblivion if you hit a dog in the crosswalk...at least make it look like a '57 Chevy instead of the generic sedan from GTA

If this all pans out well, and by well I mean that everything must go perfectly, it could be extremely beneficial for the American public and more importantly, Detroit.
An all-electric car for around $25k + Jobs being created in Detroit = WIN

Keep me updated so I know when it's safe to buy some Detroit Electric stock.

At least it's not Chicago Electric.

@F*ckingPlushroom: Well, it may mirror Chicago electric perfectly. A defunct brand of well-engineered, durable products revived only to be built by the lowest bidder.

@Ben Wojdyla: Buy one for cheap, use it 'till it breaks, buy another one for cheap, use it 'till it breaks, buy another one for cheap, use it till it breaks...

Or until you lose copious amounts of blood and 3 or more extremities. In which case, you'll probably need to wait a few weeks before going to Harbor Freight again.

@Ben Wojdyla: I'm afraid you're right. No, not afraid exactly - if you buy one of those, you kinda deserve it.

@bzr is too lazy to come up with something clever: Extremities like "legs, in a 10mph collision that a Dodge A-van could drive away from"?

It looks like finally the consumer is going to win. Cars that costs normal amounts of $ with almost maintenance-free technology.

But who's to say what kind of reliability they're going to have?
They are going to be built in India and modified in Detroit.

I see what Detroit is doing. They are simply waiting to deliver newspapers until Detroit Electric starts producing this car, so they can use electric cars. This will give them green cred, so that the other cities won't laugh at them. (Well atleast not as much, anyway.)
