Where I live crown vics are generally stuffed to the roof with newspapers or old food cartons covered with CB antennas and piloted by guys with overgrown beards and a foil hat who constantly mutter about people watching them through the TV.

Disclaimer: I am not a Crown Vic man, but can appreciate them.

My wife and I went and watched disturbia. The opening scene w/ the car accident had my wife crying. We had no clue that they had an intense scene like that or we wouldn't have gone. She was in a pretty bad accident in high school and stuff like that doesn't help matters...

For anyone who has been in a nasty crash, do you get that tingle and chill up your spine every time you see one on film from the first person?
Gets me every time.

They were retro-fitted (dealer) in later model P-71's.(CV) Too many were catching on fire when rear-ended.
Quite a few Officers died .

I've heard, but never saw that. I do know one of the main reasons/rumors they where catching fire was the spare tires missing from the trunks. The spare is part of the crumple zone. At least it's placement in the trunk is. Of course, that was all rumors I heard so take it for whatever it is worth.
Guess take the spare out, more room for ammo and tasers. Ya baby.

@GotaGurt: Got some back-up for that assertion?

The Ford Crown Victoria is the best car. Ever.
My dad still have a 98 with 200k on the clock. It's never broken down once or had any major mechanical problems. Its comfortable, its fun, and you feel like a pimp when you drive it. I love that car more than I could love any child to come out of my future wife, and when it goes...then a part of me will too.

My grandpa had one with only a few hundred miles on it when he died. My cousins and I took it out for a little memorial hooning the afternoon of his funeral. We drove it up the mountain and then down to the beach. Six of us. In comfort.
The plant usually scores very high in quality, too. Of course, when you've been building the same basic car for years there isn't much of an excuse for quality problems.

I want that car to last forever, I've had some good times in it. It was the first car I drove when I got my license, first car I got a speeding ticket in, and first car I got mildly lucky in. I drove that thing through anything and everything: storms, sands, creeks, even a fallen tree once. Nothing can stop the Vic. Hell, I even slept in it once. I cringe when I think how rough I used to be on that car, but it took it, day in and day out without any complaint. It still runs strong every time you turn the key.
My dad sits in it every night, engine running with the heat on, smoking cigars with the window cracked: my mom hates the smell in the house. They're growing old together and neither one could be more content.
I like my Accord. But I love my Vic.

Maybe he is a pimp.

If this car means anything, than at most a symbol of where things went wrong when we should have known better.

That said, they still aren't my favorite Ford. Although I do want one badly.
