Mille Borne! I loved that game...we play it every Christmas, its a family tradition. When my brother and I were younger we used to run around the house holding up cars at each other to signify how fast the other should run. We'd hold up like a 200 card and then hold up an Accident card, and the other person would go careening across the room into the couch or something. Good times.

I never heard it called "Touring". "Mille Bourne" sounds so much cooler.

"all flash, no dash" was always my favorite... I seem to remember it coming up frequently with the Continental Mk II. Oh, and that new blue Monte Carlo on the game box cover? I could cry...

I actually still have this game somewhere, but if I remember right the cards have been seperated from the rest of the game and I need to find them.

I've never actually played the game though, everyone always wanted to play Life instead...

That tank seems a little under blue book. It must not be DOT approved.

Murilee, this was also a game of my youth, only when all the boys (and there were 4 of us) memorized every piece, we actually tripled the number of cars offered, and made up some more values for the additional vehicles. I remember including a Ford Econoline, A Buick of some sort, a Stationwagon (or 2), a Pickup Truck, a Vespa Scooter, and other odds and ends.

What a trip down memory lane.....

@UDMan: I bet I can find this one in my attic. Without looking (the pics did not load) I know there's a Corvette, a Reo, and I believe something odd, like a tank. Anyway, it was an education into how to swindle your siblings in order to win a game.

Well, I suppose that if Murilee had played Monopoly instead now he would be an investment banker or real estate mogul.

I use to play the Milles Borne game, in acrimonious, hatred-filled sessions with my sisters too, only we called it "los Mil Hitos" in Spanish even when the spanish version was called simply "1000 kilometros".
My mother bought it because she played it too with his siblings and I liked the Renault 5 Turbo on the cover. The actual drawings on the cards were exactly the same as the ones on the french version

@Pastrafer: We played Milles Bornes through two years of high school French class. It was about the most teaching the teacher thought she could get away with. Excellent training on how to be busy without being productive.

@Pastrafer: I used the game of course but I used to play it, then my mother is a little Mediterranean by American standards but certainly I wouldn't mistake her for a man, ask me how I know.

There somebody that is selling a game of 1000 kilometros on ebay in its unopened box for 50€, I guess spanish playing cards powerhouse Fournier must have discontinued it

Amazing; it just oozes camp 1970s America.

Here's the game that turned me into a complete car/bike/aircraft/helicopter anorak:

This is exactly the sort of life training that would have come in handy. Of course, with the benefit of hindsight, I'd feel fortunate to have bought any of those cars for the price.

Wow. There are exactly none of these cars that I would welcome into my personal Fantasy Garage. Except maybe the tank. The neighbors might complain about that.

Hmmm. This has the makings of LeMons Penalty.

Actually, I disagree that insurance from roving bands of chickens is of "no value." Do you know the kind of damage those shitsters with their velociraptor claws can do to a paint job? And the eggs, the eggs. Ruination. You just have to give up and call Earl.

The funny thing is.. Toyota is courting a lot of these dealers to get them to signup for one of their franchaises..

Wasn't the auto taskforce basing this on "well toyota can do it with less.. so you will to!" type of mindset?

Holy crap, it sounds like this is just the beginning, too.

"Around 1,100 GM dealers -- about 18% of the company's U.S. network -- should be receiving letters from the automaker informing them that the company does not plan to renew their contracts that expire in October 2010..."

"GM hopes to reduce its U.S. dealer count by 42% to 3,605 by the end of next year."

That means the final count on the deathlist is roughly 2570 dealerships. I wonder how many are going to hatch plots to steal the cars or do something stupid once they find out they're getting axed.

GM's fixation with being Number 1 is part of what got them in this mess.
