Letterman isn't a journalist, he's a comedian and celebrity interviewer. It's not his job to be "hard-hitting" with anyone unless he thinks it will make funny TV. He doesn't owe anyone anything but an entertaining hour of TV each night.

Why didn't Musk's appearance on the show rate its own post? Why is it only a story now?

Letterman has certainly gone corporate--I remember when he took the flower and fruit basket to GE when they bought NBC, filmed it, as he was asked to leave, and did a slo-mo on the handshake that was offered but then retracted.

@combat chuck: If you're under 40, then by the time you get to be Lutz's age, "old man business casual" will mean cargo pants, flip flops, and a concert T-shirt.

The youngsters will be going to work in shorts, adhesive gel soles, and mesh tops with nipple pasties. And on the weekends: nothing but an adhesive codpiece.

Horribly sad news. Bobby Rahal was a great racer and has been a tremendous team owner. And David Letterman has really raised the profile of the series that the team runs in and opened it up to a far wider audience. It's a classy operation, and I hope they can find a way to patch together the sponsorship to run some sort of a season this year.
