Though Mr. Brown was quite gracious, most of the other Gumball players edged away from your correspondent like they'd just seen me rattling a can of gray primer and drawing a bead on their godzillion-dollar rides. The "fire-eating stripteasers" associated with the Donkey Frog Riviera had genuine integrity- the Ratt '84 tour shirts saw to that- but most of the other costumes seemed forced.

<![CDATA[ Knight Rider Rides Again On The Today Show, Now With Added Hasselhoff ]]> KITT made an appearance on the Today Show this morning alongside costar Justin Bruening to promote the new Knight Rider TV Movie. During the show it was revealed that David Hasselhoff will be returning as Michael Knight. Bruening also revealed the loophole that allows the new version to pick up where the old left off, apparently, KITT's true inventor was never identified. Oh joy, what a plot twist.

<![CDATA[ 1983 BMW 320i With Rare David Hasselhoff Option ]]> This series has become a real balancing act for me, as I try to make sure I don't neglect one type of vehicle for too long. We had a Chrysler A-body recently, and we're definitely due for an air-cooled Beetle one of these days. Now I realize with a shock that it's been two long months since our last Bayerische Motoren Werke machine. I could show you one of the several Alameda 2002s that I've shot recently (though I'm still hunting that 1500 I see around town), but instead we're getting a Late Malaise 320i with a most intriguing vanity plate.

1983 was the last year for the E21 BMWs, and maybe the end of the line for BMW's American image of being primarily about sportiness. As the 80s ground on, a BMW in the driveway came to symbolize something other than a pure appreciation of the car's driving qualities.

This example is in nice solid original condition. The question is: does David Hasselhoff own it? Does he have a secret crash pad in Alameda?

A little too nice for the 24 Hours of LeMons... but Alameda has plenty of hideous beater E21s as well!

<![CDATA[ K.I.T.T. Joins Nancy Reagan To Say Nope To Dope! ]]>
With all the focus on the new KITT yesterday, it's good to spend some time remembering the classic KITT. Apparently in hopes of counteracting the insidious influence of Jeff Spicoli on America's impressionable youth, 80s icons Nancy Reagan, Brooke Shields, Mr. T, a talking Pontiac, and David Hasselhoff joined forces to get the message out: Say Nyet To Intoxicants!

<![CDATA[ Ex Soap Star To Play Son of Michael Knight ]]> jbruening.jpgNBC has announced that former All My Children star Justin Bruening will play the son of Michael Knight, the protagonist (well, other than KITT), in the NBC Knight Rider made-for-tv movie, which could well be the pilot of a new television show. As we all remember, the original KITT was a pretty awesome Trans-Am. The new KITT hasn't been announced, but we're sure many automakers are licking their chops to get in on that action. Before we all get up in arms about the soap star playing our childhood hero, we'd remind you that David Hasselhoff starred in The Young and the Restless before getting his break as Michael Knight. <![CDATA[ The Hoff is Not Work Safe ]]>
Riding around in a talking Trans-Am that fires lasers is all fine and good until you start swearing like a drunken sailor while the cameras are rolling. Take it from the Hoff. What you say now could in fact come back to haunt you later. Is that thing on?

<![CDATA[ KITT vs. Airwolf! ]]>

Given that both Knight Rider and Airwolf seem to be cut from the same 1980s cloth it's almost surprising that there was a never a TV movie made of this epic meeting of the super-machines. Nevertheless, an enterprising fan took it upon himself to creatively edit one himself. And we have to say, other than the Hoff's changing shirt colors and a distinct lack of Tim Conway and Carl Ballantine, the helicopter/Trans Am shoot out is actually kind of a hoot.

<![CDATA[ KITT and Michael Do San Francisco ]]>

As previously stated, we're suckers for law-enforcement drama in the City by the Bay. We're not exactly suckers for Knight Rider, which in our mind just isn't as rad as Airwolf and is nowhere near as awesome as The A-Team. That said, we do enjoy a bit of KITTsch (d'oh) now and then, so here's a car chase through Sucka Free featuring a self-driving Thunderbird and a supposedly-turbine-powered Trans Am that sound suspiciously like it's got a 305 in it.

<![CDATA[ Hoff Needs KITT Now More Than Ever ]]>
In light of David Hasselhoff's recent how-to eat a cheeseburger while really tired instructional video, it may be time to send out the call to KITT and all KITT replicars to help the Hoff through these troubled times. If KITT can stop KARR dead in its tracks then a short press of the turbo boost button could be just what Hasselhoff needs. Oh yeah - and lasers. Lots of lasers.

The always-reliable TexansAreHot tossed us this link to a video montage of David Hasselhoff singing his "Looking for Freedom" in surreal locales intercut with footage of KITT hurtling through the air. And frankly, anything more we could say is superflous. You'll just have to watch.
