    Purely in terms of car collection, I'd have to say Jay is quite far behind the Sultan of Brunei. That said, Jay doesn't keep them locked up and away from prying eyes.

    Wonderful. This car is like David Niven as the Incredible Hulk. Piss off the suave, elegant guy in the tuxedo and he turns big, green, and destructive.

    I was thinking this morning, while sitting in traffic on I-20, if a V-12 could fit in the engine bay of my '95 W124.

    Ooooh, better yet, the twin-turbo V-10 diesel from the Touareg. It'll be smokin' fast and get decent MPG.

    @Novaload:

    And served with a side of awesome.

    This type of ride, much like his over-the-top Toronado and the '56 Buick, are exactly the kind of cars I like.

    Stock-appearing monster.

    /hopes to have the $'s to someday drop a super & turbocharged 502 crate motor into a '62 Coupe deVille. Skeg fins, FTW!

    @that ain't the way to have fun, son: Same here! I don't much understand cars that are all show and no go. Sleepers FTW!!

    Most of my swaps would have to do with diesel engines, though. The 6.6 Duramax and the 3.0L BMW I6 come to mind.

    @gman1023:

    I find, the beauty in diesels is how receptive they are to power improvement, and, if you keep a VERY close eye on EGT, they're pretty difficult to kill. Plus, most of it is simple to accomplish.

    Propane/water/extra fuel/maxi-boost...all FTW.

    I've been tempted to add propane injection to the Freightliner-chassied motorhome we have with the Cummins ISB. Hell, it already have a 35 gallon propane tank on it, and propane injection both raises power levels and drops EGT. Bonus².

    Hey, the fresh H2O tank is 100 gallons, to boot.

    This, coupled with the TST PowerMax3 which, while unplugged, is still connected to the engine, should easily have it in the 700 HP/1200+ lb. ft. range of power...out of a 5.9L.

    /first must budget for many a drivetrain rebuild

    @that ain't the way to have fun, son: Agreed on all points. Also the power and torque per fuel dollar with a diesel is pretty decent given the added efficiency of compression-based ignition.

    That would be one badass motorhome if you got that kind of power out of it! I can only imagine the red light drag races possible with something like that.

    Dear Jay--

    Did you know that thousands of Jalopniks will go to bed tonight without ever having ridden in a perfectly restored Citroen DS or even touched a Mercedes 300SEL 6.3? Some have never seen a lead sled in person or opened the door on a 55 Roadmaster.

    Those of you blessed with a stable of cool vintage machines, please remember the less fortunate, especially during this holiday season.
    Won't you please consider fostering at least one Jalopnik? It costs you nothing but a little time, some gas money, and a hefty liability rider on your insurance, but isn't giving what it's all about? Jalopniks are available individually or in sets in a variety of sizes, colors and flavors. You'll receive a photo of your little Jalopnik and a personal thank you note from Mr. Wert, who allows nothing but well mannered, or at least well meaning, often sober, dragons to reside here at the Jalopnik Academy.

    So, please, won't you think of fostering a Jalopnik today?

    There is just so much right with the stuff in Jay's Garage. This will be a masterpiece. As an aside though, I really think this is the peak of Mercedes body styling. If they put modern mechanicals into it, and put it into production, I know scads of people who would buy one.

    I know of a W108 that was (and hopefully still is) available for $1500, how hard can it be to find a wrecked AMG? Bonus points for going for a Red Pig theme.
