I wish them well. But, as folks have said below, this video doesn't demonstrate much capability. But I won't complain about getting to see Baja and off road rallying.
If there was ever a small production car that deserved to make it, this is it. This is the first worthy American limited production vehicle since the Cumberford Martinique: interesting that this one is also BMW-powered.
Los Angeles class submarines are ugly. Galapagos tortoises are ugly. Hippos are ugly. But do you want to convey megatons of fiery retribution across the world to guarantee retaliation against foolish first strikes? Then you need a big, sneaky missile boat. You want to survive harsh conditions and poor forage for a hundred years or more? It helps to be a Galapagos tortoise. You want to have your baby carefully watched over by African crocodiles? The crocs do what the hippos make them do - no fooling. It's bizarre.
Do you want to go crazy fast across the high plains desert of Mexico? Can you stand to look weird doing it?
It ain't pretty. But damn, that looks like the ride I want in the Baja.
@siva80: A marine architect would agree with you. A hydrodynamicist would agree with you. A sonar operator would throw down his 'phones in disgust ("I can't hear a goddamn thing, where is it?!"). And to a degree, I agree with you.
But to the average Joe, a 688 just sitting on the surface looks like a gigantic rubber turd.
OK, call me cynical, but out of six minutes of video, there was only perhaps ten seconds' worth of it actually MOVING off-road, most of which was on a relatively flat surface that any street car could handle, and a couple seconds of which (circa: 1:07) looks like it was cut quickly to another shot because it couldn't dig itself out of the soft sand it was sitting in.
@HoonThatFerrari: What?!?! This is crazy talk. They showed it off, they admired it, they posed next to it, and they photographed it. What else could they have done? If all these actions didn't prove to you this is a serious off-road racer, nothing will.
@HoonThatFerrari: I agree with you in the first point, not the second. I think their marketing team managed to take a little footage of the Rally Fighter (which I think they should rename the Zapata) and turn it into an epic adventure with a great soundtrack, even if all it did was stand around looking pretty with its hood up. Marketing Team ftw.
@weatherman: Rally Fighter pricing is vague, but estimated at $50K. Also, that doesn't include assembly. An SVT Raptor starts below $40K, has proven capability on and off road, a factory warranty, and includes little stuff like assembly in the final price.
Color me skeptical until the marketing team has drummed up more than a hundred orders and the company has delivered a single vehicle.
Just the other night here in Miami, I saw a '90s Cadillac Seville covered in multicolored LEDs to the same effect as this truck. Very striking in the dark.
