That Crispin, Porter and Bogusky VW Rabbit ad with two of the newly-renamed hatchbacks frolicking around and reproducing all over the place, resulting in a slew of new rabbits, including a sure-fire cult hit, the "Harlequin" black, white and silver-painted version. Although we'd only seen the soon-to-be limited-edition checkerboard patterned Rabbit on the commercials, some enterprising folks got them and dropped them into Flickr. Here's a gallery of a few of the pictures, and head over to Flickr for the rest.

<![CDATA[Ad Watch: Even Volkswagen Rabbits Like To "Multiply"]]>

Yet another funny little piece of gold crashing in from the ad agency fast-ly seen as having a Midas touch when it comes to pimping an automakers advertising — Crispin, Porter & Bogusky. CP&B's latest for VW introduces the re-naming of the "Golf" to it's classic "Rabbit" name. The ad turns the little VW hatch into rabbits — complete with sexual references involving tunnels and little rabbit kiddies being born — some with very unique color combinations. At least it's better than re-naming it the "Polo." Then we'd have to see jockeys heading into tunnels hand-in-hand...somehow we don't feel America's ready for that.

<![CDATA[Volkswagen Beats Out Adidas For Major Advertising Silliness]]>
We normally wouldn't be covering this at all — but gosh darn it, if it involves VW's "Fast" we're on it like white on rice...unless the rice is brown...then...well, you get the point. Anyway — Volkswagen just snagged some major award-age with a win over Adidas (and 620 other opponents) for the "Sales Promotion Grand Prix" at the Cannes Lions International Ad Festival. Apparently the Promo Lions ad thing is new this year — but from what we hear — it's pretty cool an American company won — and even cooler that it was automotive-related. Well, if it's highly implausible for a win by the US team in the World Cup — at least we'll always have Cannes. U-S-A! U-S-A!

<![CDATA[Ad Watch: The VW Passat — Leading Cause Of Non-Hybrid Smug]]>

Jalopnik's totally all about the edgy, funny and intelligent stuff — whether it's VDub's GTI MKV Fast ads, or the Safe Happens Passat Jetta commercials. Crispin Porter + Bogusky looks like it may have hit another VDub out of the park with their newest Passat ad dubbed "Low Ego Emissions." We dunno if they're trying to get all up in the whole South Park "smug" thing or what, but the ad is pretty damn good. Interestingly enough, there's already been a change to the creative — apparently it was just a smidge too edgy. We've got the original ad below the jump along with some links to the blog-o-riffic discussion about the changes.

The advertising-centric site This Blog Sits At The has an interesting two-post discussion going on about the changes made to the ad. The first one gives some pretty good analysis on the ad itself — the second post is all about the "controversy" surrounding the ad. But really, how can "because mine is only about yay-big" be objectionable? Everyone knows he's talking about his wallet cause he just dropped so much money on the car and and the premium fuel. We knew Germany had a history of fascism, but this is ridiculous!

<![CDATA[Ad Watch: VW's Ad Campaign Garnering Attention From - - CRASH!]]>

As you can see from the video, the Today Show totally had an oh-my-God-asm all over the new VW ads. But it wasn't just them. Good Morning America and every other candy-pop talk show news programs this morning profiled the new "Crash" ads too. Just remember where you saw them first! Also, we've dropped them into this post after the jump, just in case you're antsy for a second viewing:

<![CDATA[Ad Watch: Holy Safe! Sh*t Happens.]]> VW's hit a couple of home-runs with the "Fast" and "Pimp Mein Auto" ads. Both seemingly went over pretty well with auto folks and the general public...a feat in and of itself. Additionally, VW's seen huge sales numbers over the past few months since the two ad campaigns started. It appears VDub was hopin' for a little bit more of that Crispin Porter and Bogusky magic. They've dropped some more money into the CP+B hopper to market the Jetta to the family-to-be crowd. And as we pointed out in todays Morning Shift, the resulting ads have dumped the "Drivers Wanted" tagline in favor of the hoping-to-be-funny and still-telling-an-important-safety-message tagline of "Safe Happens." Was the fast-ly becoming a powerhouse CP+B successful? You decide.

The w-holy jarring ad, "Movie" is here, and the second just-as-jarring ad named "Like" is after the jump.

<![CDATA[Volkswagen Chooses Crispin Porter as Ad Agency of Record]]>

Sources tell us Volkswagen of America will announce today that it's choosing Miami-based advertising badasses Crispin Porter+Bogusky as its agency of record. CP + B, high-profile darlings of the edgy, youth-oriented ad segment and winners of the Cyber Lions Grand Prix at Cannes this year, have created artful, imaginative campaigns that riff on pop culture for BMW's Mini (pictured) and Ikea, as well as the "Truth" campaign for the American Legacy Foundation (the anti-smoking organization created after the 1999 public settlement with big tobacco). Left in the dust is Arnold Worldwide, known for producing the VW Touareg "snow drift" TV spot that once made us spit-take a mouthful of Riesling (seriously) as well as the "Milky Way" campaign for the Golf Cabrio that kept the late Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" swirling around our forebrains for six months. The changeover will be effective December 5, 2005. [Update: AdRants has a take.]
