    First we drool over the amazing Honda Coupe 9 in the Fantasy Garage. Then we spot one on eBay and we figure, well, that's the last we'll see of that car. But wait! Now we hear from Junkman (the madman behind the Pontiac 400-powered Deutsch-Bonnet and the Chevy 400-powered Porsche 356) that he has obtained that very same 1971 Honda Coupe 9!     Honda 1300 Coupe 9 S On eBay

    Wanna own the only Honda 1300 Coupe 9 S in the United States? The bidding starts at just $6,600. Not bad for a 4-banger front-wheel driver that's survived two Fantasy Garage elimination rounds. We've seen a Coupe 9 for sale before, but in the land of the rising sun, not sunny, rust-free California. This particular 1971 example is one of the few Coupe 9s exported to Australia. And for those of you who are still scratching your heads as to why a Honda is in our Fantasy Garage (albeit a dry-sumped, air-cooled, quad-carbed Honda), the "wealthy eccentric" who owned this car also had a Lancia Aurelia, a GT40 and most impressive of all, an Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato. You think he might know a thing or two about a thing or two? We also like that the seller cited our JFG entry as proof of the car's righteousness. Thanks to the great Harumph for the tip.     Oh yeah! By now you have met our friend Jonee and his nice collection of miniature cars. Well, as with most people that will listen, we have sang the praises of our favorite ever Honda to him. And, as Jonee routinely patrols the interwebs of Japan, he found this gorgeous baby blue 1300 Coupe 9. I mean, just check out that racing stripe! Sadly, just because he patrols Japanese classifieds, doesn't mean he can read them. So, we don't have much more info about this car.     Our first three Jalopnik Fantasy Garage residents possess on average the power of 477 horses. The 1969 Honda 1300 Coupe 9 has only 116 ponies at the ready. And its front wheels are of the driven persuasion. Still, I am advocating for the Coupe 9 to be included in our little 50-space Fantasy Garage. Why? Well, for one it is hella rare. Official numbers are hazy recollections at this point, but according to our research Honda built just over 8,000 Coupe 9s. The company built a lesser variant, the 100-hp Coupe 7, in greater number (about 38,500). More significantly, only 1,053 Honda 1300 Coupes ever left Japan, the bulk of which were the punier 7s. Almost all the Coupe 9s that escaped went down to Oz. But rarity does not a Fantasy Garage inductee make.
