Is it right that I now want to strangle Jalopnik for this line: "Come back tomorrow for how we know."
You know I'll come back tomorrow, but why do you do this to me? I'll be up all night in anticipation. Curse you with tree sap that won't come off!!!!
"Now that the mid-engine layout has once again been tossed aside" Leave the Corvette alone with it's front engine, it's meant to be that way, and make a Cadillac supercar with mid engine that will give the R8 a run for it's money.
@Motor_Yakuza:
Actually..
The Vette was designed to be a mid-engined vehicle. About 18 months ago.. they came the closest they've ever come to doing midengined.
SO..
I dont believe its impossible.. just ANOTHER generation where it true design wont be reached.
@Tossed Accordtaco salad over Malibu: I was talking about the car's history and the fact that it was front engined for 57 years, and some fans would find this a deviation from what a Corvette should be, a Caddy supercar will mean that we will have a mid engine supercar from GM without touching the Corvette heritage and that Cadillac it's mow a proper luxury brand.
Do we even need another Corvette in 2012? Can't GM just give it a face lift, some interior upgrades and maybe some engine tweaks? The name "Corvette" sells itself, so why must they redesign it more often than the Impala? The C3 lasted from '68-'82 and the C4 from '83-'96 with no major changes, and it never hurt the car's popularity.
Oh, and, Ray, three things:
1) GM's long-term product planning is, at best, half-assed, and most likely pure, unfiltered bullshit. Whatever they're claiming right now almost certainly wont be seen in 2012. However, part of what I love about Jalopnik is the lack of "Mid-engined Rotary 'Vette in 2015!" crap that drove me away from print rags like Motor Trend. I'm guessing you've got more accurate inside information from that press preview the other day, so I'm sure you're story is better than that...don't let me down, man.

@FromaBuick6 Misses the Banned: Pretty much spot-on on all accounts. I'd add that the C3 was really a rebodied C2, so you could make the argument that the C2 chassis ran from '63 to '82. Also, Chevy made two separate mid-engine rotary-powered Corvette concepts in the '70s--a 2015 release date would be about right given the typical GM product development cycle.
@FromaBuick6 Misses the Banned:
1) Yes. The C3 and C4 platforms both ran far longer than engineers wanted it to, and no, the C3 was not the same chassis as the C2 under a different body. It shared certain components, but it was not the same.
@pauljones: One of the components shared between the '63-'82 Corvette is the Chilton manual. The C3 was never intended to be a long-term replacement, so VERY few changes were made to the chassis in between '67 and '68. The engines essentially carried over. The planned early '70s mid-engine replacement just never showed up. The engineers did a remarkable job of keeping the car relatively fresh for that long, but they were ultimately doing the best they could after being dealt a bad hand [/GM in a nutshell]
@Ray Wert: I'm from the future (Australia) and it's tomorrow already and I haven't seen it yet?
You mean the new stingrayz has quantum dimensional timeshift instead of an engine?!!! How many MPG's is that?
This is now a hostage situation. Bring in the SWAT team, and the negotiator.
Jalopnik, what are your demands? We will meet them, if you send each picture out with their arms up, and surrender all of your information on the C7.
Should you not comply, the commentariat is prepared to send in the A-Team. That's right, the A-Team. Be afraid.
You have approximately two hours.
I get what this article is....a TEASER to arouse our curiosity and pique our interest. Well, are you all aroused or piqued? I see these teasers every night on TV and at the movie theaters.
Let's hope not. That concept's beak was stolen by the Mantide and beaten with the failure stick into a nauseating pile of suck. I place my faith in GM making it retro like everything else and adding 1000 lbs.

Today the son of Steve Irwin continued the family tradition of being killed by a Stingray. However, this one was the high-speed automotive variety...
Tomorrow? Tomorrow? Well, I wasn't planning to visit tomorrow, but I guess now I will.
Who am I kidding. I was going to be riding the refresh button tomorrow, just like I am today. But now I have something specific to look forward to.

Yak's Cad would be great to see, though I'd lean toward a spartan, Chevy badged GT killer, rather than a puffy R8 rival.
