    @Ambiguously Unfunny Serial Killer: Now I'm dying. Are there politically correct terms for any of our other stereotypes?


    We should come up with a list- it could prove to be very funny.


    For example-

    All Indians ride Persian Rugs not magic carpets.

    All Italians wear gold chains and are hairy, wait a minute-

    This isn't working.

    I don't know if I like Conan yet...I never really liked his own show...I know thats blasphemous, but I always thought he knew that he was so funny, and that the knowledge made him unfunny.

    @wrx-tyrannosaurusWrx: You should hear the interview with Louis CK and Sunny Fox from Raw Dog Comedy. He talks at length about being on Conan's show. Conan's strength isn't that he's particularly funny, and he doesn't think that he's particularly funny, he is just willing to be a conduit for funny writers to experiment. Sometimes it will fail spectacularly, and sometimes it will be amazing, but he's always willing to give it a shot. He's a lot like Letterman, he just surrounds himself with good people and works really really hard to try and make their material work.


    I respect both of them a lot, coming from a lengthy theatre background. I can put an audience into absolute stitches, it's just a matter of timing and knowing how to use pauses and inflection, IF you have good material to work with. Both guys know how that works.


    Being funny comes down to two things: 80% of it is the material you're delivering, 20% is how you deliver it. Both Letterman and Conan are willing to put absolute faith in that 80% from their writers. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But as a performer, I have enormous respect for other performers who are so willing to take such huge risks.
