I'm pretty sure I should get to work on eating my hat.
I can't remember specifically, but I highly doubt I've gone my entire life without saying I'd eat it the day Korea could build a car better than Japan.
I saw one of these Genesis(es)('s)(-i) at a gas station, debadged and slammed. I had no clue what it was until he opened the door and I recoiled in horror at the site of the Hyundai badge on the wheel.
"You want Genesis car? Is manufacturer forbidden! Quality is less. Frustration, more."
"I don't care about that, my grammatically-challenged friend. Genesis car, yes! I'll cope with the frustration."
I'd have to have the spirit of a frenemy stuck in my head before I'd buy Hyundai anything. Like GM and Chrysler are discovering now, the fruits of crappy workmanship yesterday are hundreds and hundreds of tomorrows where they will never sell me a car.
I've been trying to get a 2.0T GT for a few weeks now... the dealer said one was coming in that I could test drive, but it was sold before I ever saw it. Now he's ordering one to my specs and reserving it for me - just for a test drive. I guess if I don't want it, they'll just put it on the lot and it'll be gone by sunset!
@maximum-sienna can't comment 9 out of 10 times:
Wasn't sure, but I just assumed there was a 2009 Coupe since they said "Genesis" like it was one car... either way, the coupes seem to be flying off the lots too.
The 2009 F150 is crazy. It is light years ahead of the competition and managed to be so well-built for an introduction year. My mom has one while my uncle bought a new Ram (he drives Dodge HD). The Ram interior was nice, but overall the truck looked a little lackluster and is imo, overrated. It already had a couple problems. The F150 has been perfect. Not the prettiest thing on the road either, but it works much harder with more practical features other than "Ram Box" such as the "man steps" or the fold flat seating.
The Genesis was no surprise to me. It is a very nice car from a typically budget vehicle company. Kia better take some notes.
This number's value = official unemployment rate number
However, starting Monday, the unofficial unemployment number is less...by one.
I tell the landlady I got a job
I'm gonna pay the rent
She said "Yeah?"
I said "Oh yeah"
And then she was so nice
Lawd she was lovey-dovey
So I go in my room, pack up my things and I go
I slip on out the back door
And down the streets I go
She a-hollerin' about the front rent, she'll be lucky to get any back rent
She ain't gonna get none of it
@engineerd misses Uncle Pete: A friend at work had the same experience. She turned in her Matrix, saying it was a complete POS, and turned around and got a Vibe. I tried to tell her, but damn if experience hasn't proven her right. What's up with that?
I just bought a Hyundai Elantra Touring yesterday. I'd have laughed a year ago if you had told me to consider a Hyundai, but wow, they have come a long way. I'd easily put them up with Japanese rivals now. An extremely well made car that doesn't feel cheap, but is still thousands less than the competition.
@Saboth: My fiancee has an 07 Elantra, it manages to be cheaper, nicer inside with more toys, and more fun to drive than the equivalent Corolla. They're obviously doing something right at Hyundai lately.
@Pete Gaines wuz here: Let me guess, PCH-caused bankruptcy got you down? Owe thousands in debt because that old junker just won't stop shredding water pumps? Just don't know what to do about the monthly payments anymore?
"The VLI examines various factors that are critical to the financial success of a launch, including turn rate, vehicle revenue, dealer gross profit, incentive spend, credit quality and residual value. In addition, VLI includes the key factors of vehicle quality and design, based on the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study SM (IQS) and Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study."
say what? since when is JD power measuring vehicle revenue, quality, residual value (in 8mo?), and credit quality all in one "index"?
That is literally a number for the sake of making up a number, no consumer could possible hope to understand what all that means. I'm in the industry and I don't know what it means. I could just be an idiot though
@d3c509b aka Steve: I tried to figure out WTF they were talking about but I kept spacing out. This is definitely a number just so JD Power can seem relevant and keep selling useless ratings to marketers.
@SlowMo -fading into the background: exactly. JD power is getting more and more irrelevant as time goes by. They realize that people care more about consumer reports and they are scrambling

Me thinks that's less a problem with the car and more of one with your seemingly parochial view of automobiles.

That was after I stopped bashing my head against the wall..
Then again..
Im just poed cause the 2010 Mazda3 hatch.. isnt even on the list.

The 2.0T is the Coupe, which is a 2010 model. The 2009 Genesis is the sedan...

That's good, 'cause I don't have to ask...
Can I stay witcha mebbe couple days?
Uh, let me go an ask my wife...
He come outta the house
I could see his face
I known it was no
"Aw, man, I dunno...she kinda funny, y'know"
I said, "I know...everybody funny,
Now you funny too."
Upside to being way-under-employed is after a short time, I should be comfy Jaloping from work.

Below Average: GM, Chrysler, Europe, a token Ford, and upscale Japanese.
What sweeping generalizations can we make from this chart?
People are idiots. How does the Vibe do so much better than the Matrix when THEY ARE THE SAME FREAKING CAR?
