Seriously (I know, I know...) this is a fantastic idea. Building model cars as a kid, I learned a lot about patience and working with my hands. Researching my builds taught me much of what I know about 1:1 cars today. I still build model cars in my '30's and it is an excellent way to relieve stress and focus my creative energies. Giving these kids something to do that allows them to express themselves creatively can only be a good thing. A shame about that name, though...

A class that teaches students the techniques of building quality replicas? Leave out the quality part of the equation, and they've been doing that very thing in China for decades.

It's all about perspective: Without further details, having "chop shop" listed might move your application to the top of the pile at the culinary institute.

Ironically, that's the choice of high school dropouts around here. In the plateau of Northeast Alabama is a place called Sand Mountain, reputed across the East as "the place where cars disappear." Huge tracts of mountain land with a very sparse population. Lots of guys with salvage yards and the connections to not only secure the cars, but to move the parts all over North America. It's been called the epicenter of stolen/repoed cars in the US. Along with high levels of marijuana cultivation, it's one of the few ignominious things I'm oddly proud of in my area.

    Fantastic rock climbing, too.

@Ash78 is going POLAR...: I thought that general area was the sock capital of the world, or use to be anyway. Last time I went thru there, it looked like the illegal immigrate capital of,......of Alabama anyway.

@Flathead Smith: Correcto! Lots of chicken farms and processing up that way, and many of them employ 75%+ immigrant labor. There have been a few raids, but most of it's under the radar.

Sadly, Ft. Payne's sock industry has been mostly outsourced overseas in the past several years.

@Ash78 is going POLAR...: My wife and I used to go to trade day in Collinsville on regular basis and she’s a fan of the music group Alabama who live in the Fort Payne Little River Canyon area. We need to make our way back there.
