I am sure we will see him again. He just is too talented to be ignored.
I know he is not the most charming driver on the track but so what? I do like his I don't give a flying fu$k attitude. It's actually a very refreshing change from all the nincompoops out there. Blah..blah..blah...cry...whimper...complain...
He doesn't have to like cars to do F1. As long as he delivers who gives a crap about whether he is passionate about cars or not. At the end of the day it still is a job. Yes, it's fun, very demanding, awesome and all the other stuff. But nonetheless still a job. He wouldn't be where he was without him being good.
I will take Kimi over that cry baby Alonso any day of the week.
If I understand correctly, since Ferrari ended his contract prematurely, he was set to receive a certain amount of money from them - less whatever salary he was able to pick up from some other team. I read that this was one of the sticking points in his negotiations with McLaren - that they were saying "Look, we'll give you X, and you'll still get Y from Ferrari, so it'll be just like you were getting X + Y."
So I understand the sitting it out for a year. I mean, hell, if your company told you they didn't need you around next year, but you can have your salary - or your salary less whatever income you generate elsewhere - what would you do? I'd go home and start watching my backlog of netflix movies.
Aside from all that, though... I was thinking earlier today. WRC is probably the closest thing to moonshiners running the back roads of North Carolina that we have today. Which is kinda funny, considering NASCAR's origins. It wouldn't surprise me to see more manufacturers involved with WRC in time than are involved with F1 or NASCAR - their vehicles have demonstrable connections to the roads and cars we drive every day. And if we were ever being chased by a revenuer, I'd much rather be in a WRC car than a stock car on slicks or a delicate F1 car!
I'll be curious to see how the new WRC Super 2000 cup is going to affect things. Lot's of manufacturers have cooked up Super 2000 spec rally cars (Honda, Toyota, VW, Peugeot, Skoda, Proton, Fiat/Abarth and Opel) and the difference between FIA Super 2000 specifications and the 2010 WRC spec is not a large one.
As kick-to-the-jaw awesome as the Group B beasts were, the rear-drive machinery that preceded them (Escort RS, Ascona 400, 131 Abarth, Sunbeam Lotus, et al) were just as rad, IMO. #kenblock
Gosh that sure did look like fun. I'm going to build something like that in my backyard. I'm going to start this Saturday morning. I'll have beer if anyone wants to join me.
I do love cars very much. What a great invention. #kenblock
Excellent vid! How did they get a UK plated Escort Mk2 in the states though?
Even with no sound (at work) I can still quite clearly hear what that engine sounds like at full chat in my head... Nothing sounds quite like a rallyed up Escort!

At the same time, he went into a sport that's still interesting. Go Kimi!

If you're just in it for the money, commute like everybody else.
