@mechimike: Oh yes, by '87 they had nearly 400bhp and traction control. The bad news is the factory bought them all back after they raced so as far as I know there are none in private hands these days.

I have to agree with this. They sound like angry beasts.

Watching these cars going off the turn at full scream is music.

    Quite nice.

I miss BTCC on TV. You've gotta love cars which have lights, signals, wipers, doors, etcetera, which are racing.

I always enjoyed the first lap technique of drivers trying to fold or knock the mirrors off competitor's cars. That takes a delicate touch, if you plan on not being penalized.

Why aren't cars as good looking today as they were back then? Anyway, nice video, although I would've preferred a bit more screen time for the Alfas 75 and 155 I saw.

I must be stupid. Auto racing used to be my raison d'etre. CART, IMSA, NHRA hell, I used to go 50 miles to watch a friend race one of those 3/4 Kawasaki-engined "deuce coupes". Now? I religiously arise for F1, but NOTHING else is worth the electricity, let alone the monotony. When I was young (yes, here goes another old fart pontificating), we would go to Indy and actually watch front engined 4cyl. DOHC roadsters race rear engined V8 Lotii, race front engined push-rod V8 Novis, race turbine-engined STP "Specials"etc. etc. What a spectacle! I knew Parnelli had lost because there was no "whoosh" followed by unbelievable mayhem 30 seconds later. I had the privilege of going to Daytona time trials one year and I believe that year there were FIVE competing engine builders using everything the automotive "skunk works" could come up with. (including Smokey driving home a car with the gas tank removed). The "product" being passed off to us now is perfectly personified by Jimmy Johnson- that safe, white- toothed, perfectly coiffed pitchman that ANYONE would be proud to have your daughter bring him home. Even if it was to tell you they were married and she's knocked up! As I proof read this, I guess this whole screed says more about me than about racing, for better or worse. So, I guess it's time to s@#t or cut bait, and my knife is out. Goodbye "debris on the track". See ya,"competition yellow", and no more wondering if the eighth or ninth best racer in a certain series is going to get naked on-line or not. (Shit, my old lady is 42 and she puts ol' whats-her name to shame) This just may be the cutting edge of commercial saturation. But I can sure tell you fellow race fans out there that I really miss it all. I want to see A.J. come back and race both 500's.......and win! I want the Indy 500 to be part of the Formula One points race again. I want to see Roger Penske drive another bizarre engine through a USAC loophole one more time. Is it too late to reclaim our racing heritage? Has Madison Ave. and BBDO and J. Walter completely co-opted our sport? It surely seems so. I am very sad at seeing those words in print. Didn't someone once say only mountain climbing, skydiving and auto racing are true sports because they can take your life. The rest are just games.

Super keen and rad. More! More! More! I recommend muting the German Touring Car vid and sync the sound to Mouse on Mars - Kanu instead. Equally Germanic and much more tolerable. Can someone take care of that? Thanks.

LOVE the M-B w/the cone in the grill at 1:21. DTM is so much cooler and TV-watchable than NASCAR. Still don't get NASCAR. If NASCAR was like the old 1/8 mile dirt track in my hometown, I'd watch. (Hey, I can tell the cars apart!) Spec series on an oval = boring.
