You say a $300 problem likely put it in the boneyard...I wonder what that problem could've been. It's an otherwise decent-looking car.
People need to stop throwing away perfectly good things just because of a little problem. My Camaro's cost me 6 grand over the last year (Bought for $4K, put another 2,000 into repairs--not upkeep, REPAIRS) and I'm nowhere near ready to part with it. #1978
@rebeldevil: Nothing that a little love, a mechanic and a car wash doesn't fix. That poor little Honda seems like one of those stray dogs in the pound trying to get adopted, he even keeps smiling. But everyone wants a Golden Retriever... #1978
Wow, this is why you rock Murilee. Taking pics of junkyard Japanese iron that everybody else would otherwise not even bat an eye at. Just a couple days ago I went to a local yard and found a 1st generation Civic, Accord and Prelude all in the same yard. Of course I took pics... EDIT: Which I apparently will hyperlink here, since I can only attach one photo...
@Electro Gyrocator: I'll be getting emails demanding that I sell parts off "my" Civic starting tomorrow, and my response (whatever it might be, including no response at all) will only serve to trigger anger. I've started to dread these posts a little because of that. #1978
@Murilee Martin: I have to agree with Mr 87CapriceEstate. Hang in there, and keep them coming. There are those of us who understand that you can't part out every car you find for everybody who needs parts. We do appreciate your posts, and the last little bit of appreciation that your photos bring to the car before it's crushed. #1978
This makes me long for my red 83 civic 2 door with the bullet hole in the fender. Yep, I lived in the 'hood at the time. The same car that had the radio stolen on the freeway when my girlfriend (now wifey) ran out of gas. Those were the salad days!
My very first car was a '77. Mine was the non-CVCC 1200cc engined one, hatchback that was originally gold and re-sprayed in white. It's the car I learned to work on cars with and hooned it to within an inch of it's life... DAILY. Head gaskets were replaced every 5000 miles and front brakes at about the same interval. It was a great handling car with the $22.00 12" Pirellis from Costco. I could pick up the back end from the bumper and turn it 90 degrees. Small cars are so much fun. Most of my friends at the time had huge 4X4's and of course I decided it would be fun to go off-roading with them in the Civic. I buried it in the mud on numerous occasions and my friends would hook a tow strap to the towing hook and pull it out... by hand! Had 8 people in it one day to skip school. And yes, the car would just hit the 100 mark on the 100 mph speedo! #1978
@that ain't the way to have fun, son:
no kidding. I recently parked my '85 CRX Si next to a newish Civic Si, and the difference in bulk is striking.
2 feet longer and almost 1000lb heavier to accomplish the same task of carrying 4 people (in the Gen 1 hatch version) and providing a smart, fun drive ? Honda, really?
I guess the Fit is left to carry Soichorio's torch
The sheetmetal looks showroom fresh. I was surfing for one of these for a daily driver a few months back. But then I decided to get a Karmann Ghia instead. ;-) #1978
According to the netwebs, this was also a 1978 Honda Civic. Recognize the setting? It's the original 'Police Academy' movie. This is the car in which Hightower (played by Bubba Smith) learned how to drive - by ripping out the front seat, sitting in the rear and listening to what Steve Guttenberg had to say. #1978
@Van Sarockin, rogue trebuchet: But it can be crushed, Grasshopper, it can be crushed, just like the hopes of the man looking for cheap transportation and finding a black hole of debt. #1978
@Van Sarockin, rogue trebuchet: I was going to make a terrible pun on the old song, and write "Geely of my dreams, I abhor you..." but I'll refrain. Ooops! "Refrain." LOL. Sorry. My bad. #1978
@segfault: Condo? Ain't no condo! That's a 900 square-foot, 140-year-old house, right downtown! Due to crazy Gold Rush-era property lines, my driveway access is from the next street over. #hondacivic

This is a proper small car. The current Civic is larger than the first, and probably second, generation Accords. #1978

I shouldn't talk. I have a tractor parked in my front yard. And I live in a suburb, which makes the tractor ironic.
I also drive it to the post office. Can't just let it sit, to keep 'em running you gotta fire 'em up once in a while. #hondacivic
