Yeah. I'm gonna have to go ahead and, uh, disagree with that timeline. You left out the crystal pentastar that they used from the late '70s until the early '90s, not to mention all the random individual model logos they used before that. That supposed '80s "modern" Chrysler script debuted on the Cirrus and Sebring in the mid-'90s and was used in conjunction with the pre-winged ribbon logo The brand used either a blocky, generic "CHRYSLER" badge or a script one in the '80s. #chrysler

The #1 rule of brand marketing: "Consistency defines the brand."

Does anyone have any clear idea what Chrysler is? #chrysler

1993 looks like a beer logo. But the last logo was great. Why change it - brand recognition worth that little? Sheesh. #chrysler

I always thought the wax seal was one of the stupidest automotive logos out there. It looks especially bad molded in plastic trim.

I never much liked the wings around it either. Too wide and narrow and essentially meaningless.

The new one certainly looks contemporary but it's still too wide and narrow. It's kind of shapeless, sort of a wing, but not quite It looks more like a trim piece than a logo and will almost certainly disappear on the car. It has the additional problem that Chrysler is completely illegible.

The pentastar is a far cleaner logo. But I think it's a bit too plain-looking in grey. Maybe it needed some color. However, I'm guessing people felt it was too linked to the negative part of Chrysler's past.

There are other cool images in Chrysler's past they could have used as inspiration. That old family crest logo was great compared to anything else they've used. I think they should have gone with something a bit more abstract and compact. It could hint at imagery like wings without being so excessively obvious about it.

If BMW were American some idiot would stick propellers inside the logo to avoid any doubt about what its supposed to represent.

I predict this new crappy logo will be dropped before the end of the decade.

How about the early 90s penstar that was a prism? That was how you could tell the difference between a Dodge Dynasty and a Chrysler New Yorker. #chrysler

I don't hate it. And I don't think it's so derivative of Aston Martin's (specifically) as to be objectionable. As other posters have pointed out, the outstretched wings* are not exactly a novel motif.

I just doubt that Chrysler can build any better a car just because some Italian dudes are looking over their shoulders.

*It just occurred to me that there's a really rude "spread eagle" joke in here somewhere, but I won't go there. #chrysler

What branding team at what full-service marketing agency that recently lost a bid to do work for Aston Martin and whose account director has lusted after Astons his whole life saw this rebrand opportunity for Chrysler, then looked at the winged logos of Chrysler from the 1990s and thought "I have a great idea!", allowed this to come to fruition? They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I mean, come on, who do they think they are fooling with this?

What's that, you say? "90% of American motorists who can't actually describe what the Aston Martin logo looks like if they were asked to?"

    Umm. Right.

So maybe the branding team did a decent job after all, but in the end it will still be a waste of money becuase we're talking about the logo of a car company that will be relegated to the pages of history within the next decade anyway, so, in the end, who cares?

I think you mean "trademark filings." The TM office also took objection to this logo: "Drawing Does Not Reproduce Satisfactorily - Explanation: The drawing is not acceptable because it is too blurry, small, and lacking in detail, and thus, it will not create a high quality image when reproduced. A clear drawing of the mark is an application requirement. 37 C.F.R. ยง2.52. Therefore, applicant must submit a new drawing showing a clear depiction of the mark."

BTW do you think Eddie Van Halen will object too? #chrysler
