The local Chrysler dealer is going bye bye... bout time, never made any sense. BMW, Mercedes, Chrysler... one of these things is not like the others.

But then again the Jeep dealership also carries Jaguar and Cadillac... yeah, my town's f*cked up. At least the Dodge lot is normal.

@something_unique_and_descripti...: Upon further inspection, the Jeep lot's gone too. Again, made no sense. Buick, Pontiac, Cadillac, Jaguar, Jeep?

This Google map is a better indicator of population density than anything else.

Oh, how I wish for 400, no, 4000 acres, a scale model of the Nurburgring in my backyard, and a slew of high-performance miniature F-1 style go-karts.

I'm thinking the ultimate Malibu Grand Prix, here.

@I'll take my German tank over a French croissant, any day: I'd appreciate the Malibu Grand Prix. Actually, let's open it up to any N- and W-body GM cars.

    Man, that sucks.

With GM closing 2300 dealers and Chrysler closing almost 800, that's about 3100 dealers. Even if maybe 20% of that are dealers with multiple brands, not just Chrysler brands, that is still a very large chunk of employees looking at job loss. If you figure an average of 100-120 employees per dealer that's over 300,000 jobs lost across the country if all 3100 or so dealers close.

That's not a good thing at all.

How is my local dealership NOT on the list? Seriously, it's a Toyota/ChyCo store and they keep all the Chrysler products on the back lot behind the building b/c the manager hates them so much. Every time somebody tries to buy a Chrysler product they try to talk them into a Toyota instead. WTF?

Its hard to believe that one summer of $4 gas caused all of this.

@Jinx870: One summer of $4 gas didn't make Chrysler's product lineup suck. It took many board meetings, too many concessions to quality un-conscious and overpaid UAW workers and generally lousy design decisions to do that.

@Jinx870: Most idiotic thing I have heard in a long time... Last Summers gas prices didn't kill Chrysler... Chrysler killed Chrysler... with piss poor quality, inferior cars, hack engineering and management old enough to remember when Moses pulled his cart by Donkey power.

Too many years of people thinking Americans will stay loyal to a name. If they haven't figured this out yet, we as a nation are the flavor of the weak (week) crowd and will jump on the next thing that comes along that is supposed to be hip or cool.

@Mike Delozier: Or the next thing to come along and prove it's a better mousetrap, so to speak. I gots $20K. I can get either (1) a soberly styled Toyota product that, while it drives like a household appliance, will last me until I retire, or (2) a ridiculously styled, under-engineered (unless engineers are now UAW members, don't get me started), bucket of fail on wheels that won't go two winters without starting to show the effects of sodium chloride on metal and probably not run much longer than the warranty. Given that $20K is a lot of money, guess which one I'm choosing.

Oh, great. As soon as they recover one abandoned building (the old Ma Bell building was torn down, became a Shaw's and CVS) they create another next to it (Roberts CDJ)

Well, Keene's still open, and that's what I care about. We have one within driving distance for me to pity.
