Is Zhuzhou the Chinese word for "Minneapolis?"

I was going to say that dang, those Chinese evidently can build something right, the bridge took it and held up for a while...but no.

The Chinese evidently make lousy explosives.

Expect swift government action against the protestors.

@maximum-sienna: That is a picture of the Strongest Man in the World.

I have no idea what was in those shopping bags, but I suspect they were for carrying his balls.

I will never forget the footage: tanks shift to one side, man moves over to continue blocking tanks. Tanks stop. Repeat.

After about five minutes of that, people rushed out to drag that guy out of the street. I hope someone gave him a medal. Knowing China though, he probably just got a bullet in the head and dumped somewhere.

China would be an awesome, inspirational place...if not for her government.

The message that this and so many other stories coming out of China delivers is that human life isn't worth much.

    Those are values worth mocking.

@Alfisted: I was almost going to say this. That's the reason that people freak out over a plane crash or a missing kid in the US, but don't pay much attention to 100,000 people dying in a Bangladesh flood. We tend to write things off a little more easily when we feel a nation or organization treats human life like a commodity to begin with (ie "They don't even care about their people, so why should we?")

But in reality, those mothers and fathers and siblings are still suffering just the same as anyone else.

Obviously the Chinese government has already filtered this news. 9 people and 24 vehicles? That's not exactly believable. 24 vehicles and 250 people is more believable.

In all seriousness, this is a tragedy and points to the problems with expanding infrastructure too fast and with lax standards.

To people make fun of this: nine people died. It's not funny.

And read the article before posting comments. The bridge didn't collapse because it was badly built. It was a condemned bridge, and they tried to level it with explosives. But the bridge didn't implode and idiots allowed traffic to continue underneath.

@Analyst: Since when did people dying preclude finding funny points? And just because you don't approve of the funning, doesn't mean we won't continue looking for the joke.

Overheard after the attempted demolition: "Honorable bridge much stronger than we thought. Just leave it up - it surely won't give in to mother nature after withstanding our demolition experts."

As long as they keep their substandard products and lack of regulation out of the US. If, however, we start getting things like toxic drywall and lead painted toys then the shit will really hit the fan. Wait, what's that you say...

"In rapid response to the collapsed bridge deaths, China mobilized its portable death vans to administer retribution on the officials responsible for the situation. However, it was reported that the death vans were unable to access the city of ZhuZhou when the highway ended abruptly at the scene of the collapse."

Apparently someone in control over there still has an opium problem. That's the only explanation that works, dude was so high he thought it was a good idea to let traffic keep driving under that bridge.
